How sad is it that almost a month has passed since VVC and I still haven't posted vid reviews or recommendations? I think that I might have to stick to recommendations only, since proper constructive criticism takes a lot of time, and I don't think I have it to spare. Everyone loves vid recs though, even if they are incredibly late; and I know that there are a few of you on my f-list that don't follow any of the vidding comms, so maybe the vids will be new to you, huh? I'll make myself complete that next weekend. *pinky swears*
Sticking with the topic of vids and vidding communities for a moment,
bradcpu has been masterfully assembling vidder profiles and posting them over at our
vid_commentary community. If you haven't checked out this series yet, then you should do it now! Brad is an incredibly generous individual who truly enjoys celebrating other people and the art that they are creating, and his enthusiasm comes through in both of the pieces he has posted thus far; so even if the vidders covered in the profiles are not your cup of tea, I can guarantee that you will enjoy this project.
Vidder Profiles presents Dragonchic Vidder Profiles presents Kiki_miserychic More profiles by Brad will be posted monthly, and once he assembles a staff there could be several submitted each month... until we run out of vidders willing to be profiled. ^_~
We also have a vidder & viewer combined commentary challenge running at
vid_commentary, where we see a comparison between what the viewer interpretation of a vid is, and what the inspiration and intention of the vidder was for it. We currently have a number of vidders and vidder/viewer teams signed up, and on Thursday I'll be posting a list of vids that still need viewers to write or record commentary. More info on the challenge can be found at the
Challenge Information Post.
In fandom-love news, I just finished watching the 6 Varg Veum movies and I want MORE! One of the vids that I will be reccing next weekend will be
mlyn and
feochadn's
It Comes And Goes In Waves, which completely pimped me into the Norwegian Crime-drama Varg Veum. The show is beautifully shot, and I am a big fan of characters that have to keep fighting no matter the cost, as well as mysteries in general.... so this was probably an easy sell, but I became so engrossed in the show that at one point 2 characters switched to English instead of Norwegian and I didn't notice until the scene was over. Whoops!
The show is not light and fluffy, and though I watch a lot of truly disturbing media there was one scene that even bothered me -- but that has a lot to do with the victim looking way too much like my niece -- so, this show is not for those who are easily upset by violent imagery. Otherwise, I recommend this show highly; the lead is compelling, the supporting characters are 3 dimensional, and the scenery is gorgeous.
Also, for those of you still hurting from the cancellation of Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles, I recommend the Out On The Wire Verse, a scary brilliant post-season 2 story by
halcyon_shift. It started out as a one-shot for the
scc_reloaded ficathon and then took on a life of its own. It is a Work in Progress, so be warned; but she updates it every two weeks, and she knows that I will hurt her if she even thinks of taking a break before it is complete. It gets better and better the longer it goes on, that is all I am telling you, just read it!
