Barbershop

So, a week ago I auditioned for my school's Men's Barbershop. I auditioned for Lead. What the audition was was first a workshop, and then we had to sing a song that the guy running the workshop wrote.

I thought that I was singing it OK, it was really easy. When we finally actually had the physical audition, he kept making different groups of four, bringing in people and changing them out, using everyone at least twice, except for me. I only got to sing once, so, needless to say I wasn't tooo confident that I had made it in or anything.

The next day a list went up with the people who got callbacks on it, and a list of people who got barbershop ensemble, which was everyone who auditioned, literally. Not a single person who auditioned didn't make ensemble, and I think there might have even been like a name or two on there of people who didn't even audition.

My name was on the ensemble list under Lead, but I didn't get a callback. Obviously, I was 100% sure when I saw that that I didn't make the barbershop. They had only heard me sing once at my audition, and they didn't want to hear me again. No chance.

So yesterday were the callbacks. From what I heard it was just Mr. Crowther doing more of what they did at auditions, just putting them into different quartets and hearing how they sounded. Today the list went up.

I went straight to my seat. I didn't know the list was up, actually. I sit down and Ryan comes over and tells me congratulations. I ask him why, and he says because I made barbershop.

I was so confused by this, and so I went and looked at the list, and my name was on it, under Tenor, which I didn't even audition on.

I was completely confused as to why this happened and so I talked to Mr. Crowther about it after class. I basically asked him how I got in if I didn't get called back and on a part that I didn't audition for.

He said that I got on because he basically knew that he wanted me in particular on the barbershop even before auditions, and that callbacks were just for deciding between people, and there was no one to decide between for me. He put me on Tenor because he felt he had two good Leads and knew that I could handle it.

Basically I'm overjoyed right now. This means that Mr. Crowther loves my voice...which is a good thing...haha

I'm the only person who made the barbershop who didn't get called back, meaning that I was the only one he was sure of without even having to hear me sing.

The people in the Coronado Men's Barbershop are:
Tenor
Ryan
D.J.
Lead
Danny
Aaron
Baritone
Stephan
Jace
Bass
Jules
Nate

I'm excited!!
