Nothing ever happens on Mars

My brother and I came to Jasper this weekend to visit my parents and help dad with some home improvements yesterday but was greeted by a feast, as in anything not Taco Bell or McDonalds and in large quantities, and promptly passed out from system shock. Mmmm, real food......zzzzzzzzzzzz. As you might have guessed, we were not all that much help, but I do have to say Chris did take charge of the initiative to keep the couch weighed down and did so admirably for several hours along with the help of 2 brave dachshunds, so that has got to count for something.

Anyway, everything here is basically the same as ever, mom is obsessive and annoying, dad is working on projects to appease/silence mom, sister works, dogs run around yipping, same old same old. Sitting here in my cramped and cluttered room it feels kind of odd being among my belongings and half-finished/started projects and such that I haven't really seen for any longer than 30 minutes or so in the last month, I almost feel like they are abandoned children or something, like the geek equivalent of social services are one step away from busting down the door and taking away my custody. I went to add my latest geek purchase, 20th anniversary Optimus Prime which is indeed cooler than cool (aka ICE COLD), to the "Grand Shelf of Prime" but found it was too full to accommodate the tiny Armada Flashlight Optimus I got at the thrift store much less the new foot tall metal behemoth. My only option at this point is going to be to move to a new location since there is no more room for shelves and no more room on the shelves that I already have, so I guess it is time to step up the job search.

After seeing what tends to pass for good design in the Birmingham area I am even more confidant about finding something soon, it is just getting that initial break into things and making connections is going to be the hardest part. The fact that people actually pay for works that I wouldn't call complete or even "OK" indicates that a insomniac obsessive perfectionist such as myself should do just fine, or at least will probably be fine as long as I am not spending hours living in SimCity (been off the Sims for a week now).

Highlights from the "Memorable Things that Happened Since the Last Real Post" category include:

Going to see the Nowhere Squares and Model Citizen play at Cave 9, the latter playing such an amazing set that made anyone else following them pointless and sad, a fact that was not missed by the headlining act Mr.T Experience judging from their faces and opening song that we left in the middle of. Also, watching my brother's "Russian water" fueled intimidation of scene kids was entertaining to watch as well.

I finally watched Donnie Darko and decided that it was good, but given the weirdness in my own life I have witnessed, such as shadow-people running races in my yard when I was a kid and being systematically hunted in my dreams and the dreams of other people that hardly know me much less the things in my life that make me sound like a raving lunatic, it was a little tame. Still, a good film overall though, especially if your sanity is pretty much intact. I also watched Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wind, and Waiting for Guffman, all of which are hilarious and only keep getting funnier with repeated viewings. A thousand thanks to jet_black_life for lending out of such fine cinema.

Hmmm, I am sure there is a lot more that was cool that happened to write about but most of you were either there, or don't want to be implicated in anything, or you just had to be there for it to even make sense or be amusing, so that being the case I will just say "there was a lot of random goofiness and crazy-acting all around going down". Yeah, that sums it up......word.

This weekend there is going to be a birthday bash for shadowstitch at the apartment, also known as the "Straight to Ale" bar (it's got a cards/Vegas/club/pub-type theme going, you'd understand as soon as you walked in), and it promises to be a great time for a great guy (he's dreamy!). If you are a friend of his, a friend of mine, or don't have any friends at all and would like to attend, email me and I'll send you directions and a picture of a robot on a toilet.
