so we played in elkmont tonight.
and you know, it was exactly as i expected.
but to be honest, that is ok.
i don't mind that there were no hardcore kids there.
i realize that you don't have to be hardcore to like hardcore.
and i know that we're not hardcore.
but let's just say metal because i think we are metal in some way or another.
but we have breakdowns too.
either way, regardless of what musical category we belong in, i like seeing kids have fun at our shows.
i remember when i thought that dancing was the gayest thing in the world.
i mean seriously, if you've never seen someone dance before what do you think.
"there's all these stupid kids pretending to be ninja fighting gorillas."
but i love dancing now. i've been around it and i've seen what it's about so i can appreciate it and get into it.
but there are so many more people out there that have no clue about any sort of scene or dancing.
they just like the music.
and i saw this tonight.
they didn't have to be ruling a pit or making fun of push pit kids.
they just liked the music.
i miss having that sort of appreciation.
to see kids that have never heard anything remotely hardcore. or metal. or whatever.
to see them get into our music.
because there is more to music than breakdowns.
i see kids that go to shows and they are bored until they hear a breakdown.
so its like all the effort that went into making a good song with some sort of melody or technical element was a waste of time.
i understand that breakdowns and 2steps are all you can dance to.
but stop and listen to the music for once.
you might hear something you like.
or you might realize that the band you dance to is actually really terrible.
the point is, music is more than a clique..
it's more than a fashion statement.
it's more than a breakdown.
it's more than something to dance to.
so go to shows and actually listen to the bands.
and if there are kids there that are trying to dance but can't, like me,
let them have their fun.
let kids have their push pit and their huge pants with the crazy chains.
because it's all about fun. so go to a show and have fun.
if you wanna dance, then dance.
if not, don't.
just have some respect for those who show their appreciation in a way different from yours.
in other news, i found out tonight that our video got approved for headbangers ball.
so be on the lookout for mortal treason on mtv in the next few weeks.
crazy.
somebody love me. i need to be loved. i don't think i have ever been loved. by anyone.
i'm being serious.
