Summary: She had hoped that once he had gotten her with child he might leave her alone.
Notes: Very hesitant about posting this, because it touches on some incredibly sensitive themes and was very difficult to write, but I've decided to bite the bullet. Please be gentle. Title taken from Blue's Breathe Easy.

She had hoped that once he had gotten her with child he might leave her alone. She could not have been more wrong. If anything it only increased his fervour, and he would come to her bed with a ferocity that terrified her, be as rough with her as he liked, completely mindless of whether he harmed the babe in her belly. When the blood came and brought with it the realisation that the child was lost, she knew that it was because of him. He of course blamed her for the loss, bellowing at her and beating her even as she lay exhausted, still in her blood-stained undergarments. He would come to her again that night, force her to submit to his desires, pound her already battered body until she cried out in pain, then chastise her for making a noise. In the end she resolved never to let their union come to fruition again, lest her husband take out his rage on any child she might bear him. It would mean - it meant - many more beatings, many more days when she could not move for the pain that racked through her aching body, but it was worth every bruise if it meant her womb remained as empty as the cradle in their room.
