For years I have travelled in coldness,
but my heart is warm as the darkened sun above me
Nothing can ever take away
what I've seen with these tired eyes

Ugh, I went to go study at university, but I ended up getting in a 2 hour Atheism vs Christianity debate. Now it's all I can think about. Both sides of the debate are so weak..I mean, just looking up at the sky on a clear night makes me feel dizzy and churns my stomach when I realise the immensity of what it is I'm looking at.

Christians tend to rely on faith too much when debating, and most of their strong points only hold meaning if both parties believe in the Christian God. Most atheists will want empirical evidence that God exists (evidence by observation or experiment). Therefore, in general, for an atheist to accept Christianity, God must exist empirically, and any argument relying on (whether you realise it or not) the belief in God or the New Testament will not fly. Yes, I am sorry, most atheists will not accept the New Testament as accurate and I don't know about you, but I find a 2000 year old book written 20-80 years after the event not to be the best supporting evidence.

Atheists tend to overuse the not proving that God doesn't exist, but rather prove to me that God does exist approach. This might be a hard thing to prove, but provides no further proof to God not existing. Atheists also tend to take shots at the bible and Christian beliefs, but again, where does that leave us in the end...RIGHT WHERE WE STARTED! You can't win a debate by saying "You can't prove that God exists, therefore he doesn't".

So where does that leave us? In a 2-way headlock which doesn't look like it's ending soon. Still, it paves the way for one of the greatest debates of our time.

Some main Christian points:

-The universe must have been caused by an uncaused, timeless, powerful Creator;

-The universe in all of its complexity must have been created by an Intelligent Designer;

-Absolute moral laws - universal, invariant, and abstract - necessitate an ultimate, absolute Moral Lawgiver;

-Man's search for meaning and purpose points to the God who created us with these needs, and who alone can fulfill them;

-Jesus Christ proved to be God manifest in the flesh by his historical, physical, bodily resurrection from the dead.

Some main Atheist points:

-Using empirical methods alone, the existence of God cannot be established;

-There is no scientific data for God's existence;

-Just because many people believe in God, that does not make him exist;

-It is possible to feel good about yourself and meaning in life without believing in God.

DEBATE!
