Again , it has been awhile since my last post. just about three months. Tomorrow I get will get the news I am dreading. My horse rebel blood panel will come back. Three months ago we almost lost him due to kidney failure from his neglect from his last owner. well we took action and brought him to the North Carolina veterinary hospital. They put him on IVs and did tons of tests. They could find a real reason for any of the problems he has. He is only FIVE years old , he should be happy and healthy. Well after $3000 and a week of IVs and the meds they gave him made him good enough for me to take him home. they pretty much said "we dont know whats wrong with him. Good luck" and thats it. so It took him home and hoped we would be able to keep him alive. he dropped weight , about 400lbs in all. But I told him that he was not allowed to die , they i needed him here with me. I had many vets come and see him to see if they could help him. I brought him over to the barn i manage so he could have big pastures to graze in and he put on a bit of weight and started to perk up. he was drink a lot of water , about 40 gallons and day and he was peeing alot. then last saturday his sheath swelled up along with his legs so I called my vet out. He said it is a sign of severe kidney failure. that he didnt know why rebel was acting so up beat and happy. Well he took blood and I will know what it says tomorrow , but we already know that it is end stages of kidney failure and we will have to put him down. So after over $4,000 of vet bills and alot of heartache it is the end of the road for him. I cant imagine saying goodbye to him for the last time. I cant stop crying. I was sitting in his pasture this morning just watch him and he walked up , got very upset by my crying and gave me a big sniff and a lick on the cheek then layed down near me. he is such a good boy I know know how I will be able to let him go. But I know he is in alot of pain and I want him to go before he loses his pride. Anyhow for all of you with sick horses , do what you can for your horses but listen to the vet and your horse. dont get caught up in wanting them around cuz now I'm over $4000 in the whole and I still have to let him go....
