[So here's the desert. It's big, open, and covered in sand, dunes rising and rolling in curves so gentle they gave the illusion of being flat. In the distance, there are dark smudges on the horizon that could be rocks, rising in clumps about the sand. In another direction is a closer blot, still far enough to be indistinct, but looking more colorful than the distant shadows.
And here's the sand erupting in golden flurries as some people who weren't before there...suddenly were.]
