of being vertically challenged

i'm one of those teachers who is very particular about students giving me a proper greeting. when i come to class or before i end it, i insist that they stand still, face me and give me a good and coherent greeting. this is because i believe that this is the respect that one should give whenever a greeting is made. therefore, i usually don't hesitate to sound students out whenever they do otherwise.

which was EXACTLY what i did in my sec 1 class just now but to much mirth-inducing results.

there was this boy who sits right at the back. everyone had already stood up tall and straight. when i saw that he seemed to be sitting down, i immediately sounded him out irritatedly to "You at the back. Why are you still sitting? Stand up straight!". i even managed to deliver that complete with an irritated face.

upon hearing me, he peered from the waves of body in front of him and gave me an innocent face that said "Who is she speaking to?".

of course as soon as i saw his face, i immediately firmly went "YOU. Up". somehow at this command, the rest of the class started to glance in the direction of my gaze and as they did so, my view of him became clearer and wa-hey(!), what do you know?

HE'S STANDING LAH!

apparently he's THAT short till i thought he was sitting when he's standing!

alamak i tell you... when i saw that, i had to bite my lips to stop myself from grinning lah.
