looks like i may have a job. next week i'm to have a lunch meeting to discuss salary. woohoo? i'm afraid to celebrate...until i sign an actual job offer. my position in the non-profit organization will be Youth Programs Director. i'm excited.

tomorrow i fly to rochester, new york. my oldest friend, valerie, is having a birthday party. her husband has arranged for 10 or so friends and family to secretly arrive from around the nation to attend what she thinks will be a small gathering of local friends. stefan, her husband, has arranged for a 'this is your life' type introduction for each of us. we will be sequestered in an adjacent room where, on cue, we will tell a story about valerie. i want to tell this story: during one summer, when we were in high school, valerie and i smoked up a good high and went to the county fair. i always like to get on the 'zipper,' a scary carnival ride. but when we got there, to the zipper, we stood motionless in front of it. we, or maybe it was just me, stared at the motion and listened to the sound of metal scraping against metal...and never rode it again. my daughter thinks this an excellent story to tell...i'm not so sure. *giggles* ah well...i'm still thinking about it.
