SONATA ARCTICA at Nokia Theater 9/27/08

Oct 03, 2008 23:12

Yep, that was my FIRST concert AND new obsession alert! If you don't know who they are, they're a Finnish metal band, kinda operatic...They are an AMAZING live band. By that I mean they sound the same live as they do on their albums. What's not to be obsessing about?

Well, what are you waiting for? Click, click! There's TONS of cell phone pics, moar dorky pics of me plus a video (where you can hear me in the audience xD)

*exuberance*

Oh yeah, and I'm eating Finnish crackers after the show.

We begin our journey...in mah dorm! Well, my roommate's side. My side is completely covered in pictures and posters. Oh, and my makeup's still on. That won't last for long.

I went with my good (and extremely artistic and METAL) friend Sarah. She's silly. :3

DO YOU FOLKS LIKE COFFEE?

Sarah took a pic while I was saying something, most likely quoting Metalocalypse. Thanks a lot.

My attempt at being BRUTAL!

When we were finally in NYC, we got some CANDEH (not two pieces, but I got Poprocks and Coke, of course!) and then waited on line for an hour or so. We had to since it ended up being a FREE show (since Annette from Nightwish was sick...aww)!

But I was definitely psyched. I think I was the only girl in the audience who giggled before the show (and sometimes during, because Tony was just so awesome)!

Happy Rose is happy.

Prettyful lights in the theater. Nokia was such a nice venue...I would definitely go there again. I should be posting pics of the Sonata Arctica t-shirt I bought before the show too soon.

I stood in the pit the whole time, so I was really close to the stage! The spot I chose was very short-person friendly (well most of the time) and I didn't get pushed too much when the opening band came on and the dudes in the audience were moshing. O_o

Now, time for some silly pit peektures!

The opening band, Martyrd, was really good! They were a local ol'school thrash metal band...so that's why everyone was going nuts. xD (The geetarist on the left smiled at me most of the time bc I was really psyched. :3)

The other guys from Nightwish came and apologized because they really wanted to play the show. But they introduced Sonata Arctica...*DUNDUNDUN!*

*SPAZ* When they all took the stage, I was soooo excited...

First, Elias took the stage (he's the guitarist that replaced Jani, but he's also really GEWD)

When Tony finally came on I was spazzing. WRYYY is the only camera I have a cell phone? :'(

It was hard to hear Tony in the beginning bc the bass was kinda loud (I think it was just the stage/where I was standing, because I could hear him fine after that).
For their second song, they played my favorite...8TH COMMANDMENT!!!

This is the best shot I got from that song.

And you thought I wouldn't put a video of this up? Someone actually took a pretty good quality video!
Yes, and you can hear me screaming through the first minute of the song. It's the REALLY high pitched and annoying scream. (which is weird because my speaking voice is kinda low) After that, I just do a regular ol' scream. Sorry guys, I couldn't help it, it was my first concert! And I was almost crying, but it turned into screaming/giggling. XD

Here's a BETTER video, from far away, if you don't want to hear the audience singing LOUDER than Tony and my squealing. xD

After that, it seemed like a blur to me...

...like this picture!

But seriously, it was awesome. Everyone in the band was great (especially the guitar/KEYTAR! solos). And Tony was just AMAZING. I love that he just seems like a regular guy...he was being a spaz onstage himself! He did all this epic flailing and stuff...and he was just hilarious between each song.

Lumberjack shirt, omg! And he's next to Marko, the bassist. He's also adorable :3

Unfortunately, we had to leave before the encore because there was only one last bus going home. We missed "The Vodka Song" at the end (and if you don't know what it is, I suggest you look it up on YouTube xD)

The last song they played was "Full Moon"- you can hear me scream at the end and OMGTONYAIRGUITARANDFLAILING. ^____^

I was still completely in awe after the concert and talking about it as we were running.

RUN AWAY RUN AWAY RUN AWAY!!!

Before we left, we got a really bad picture of the theater where they had...EQUUS!

In conclusion, AMAZING SHOW, I was just so happy. It was so surreal- a band that I've only barely known for about one month, then to see them live? It was just too awesome! By the end of the weekend, I became obsessed AFTER. Usually that's how it works with me...I hear their music, I see what they look like and then I become obsessed. I love their music, so even if I wasn't obsessed, I would still love this band. And I definitely won't forget the concert!! :)
