Before the plot hole's sudden departure, Ada hadn't time to obtain for herself dresses better suited for the very warm summer months. She is left instead with layers and layers of petticoats and silks and crinolines that are very proper and quite fashionable, but very impractical and getting more and more uncomfortable as the temperature rises.

So, armed with a fan, Miss Clare is off in search of someone whose skills as a seamstress surpass her own, or perhaps a friend with a dress to lend.
