Fic rec and Big Bang

(Because Velociraptor Island just never quits in its amazing WTF'ery, I went for a run the other day and almost tripped over a four-foot python sunbathing in the middle of the road. That would not have been a fun thing to trip over. It was cute, though.)

I come bearing a weird fic rec. It's the same thing that happened to me with Deadsville, where there is a fandom I don't read and a pairing I don't ship, and a fic that for whatever odd reason I decided to skim, and upon skimming it realized that the fic was actually awesome, then went back and reread it, on the edge of my seat and clutching pearls. I don't ship this pairing. I don't read this fandom. I'm pretty sure nobody else on my f-list does. But like Glovered said recently, see if that stops me from rec'ing it.

So here: Road Verse Series by Augustbird and Thoracopagus. It's Sledge/Snafu from The Pacific. I'm rec'ing it because, like with "Deadsville", this is the kind of love story that I want to read in my slash fiction, the kind that makes me ache and gives me all kinds of unreasonable expectations, the kind that gets it all just right. It has the longing, the passion, the angst, the stupid, the happy ending, the porn done exactly right - sensitive, full of emotion and not too graphic. This fic is perfection. I guess you probably don't need to have seen The Pacific, as it takes place after the series and after the war. A mandatory disclaimer is that Snafu and Sledgehammer were, of course, real people but lalalala, ignore the fact, this is totally not RPS about WWII Marines veterans, nope.

I have bunch of SPN fics bookmarked, and they look fantastic, but I'm taking a break until Big Bang season starts, because 1. I'm a little tired after four years, and 2. I need to focus on writing this BB and not get all twisted up with unholy envy. I need to remember what this fic is and what it's not, and not try and force it into being a different story that I maybe wish it was. I just tried to give it cool plot twist and the thing rejected it. I studied this in school: it's called hyperacute rejection, when you're trying to attach a neat little plot line to your story, and the story chews it up and spits it out right in front of your eyes before you can even start closing. I'm like, But but this would be so cool! Nope. This Big Bang has teeth, and it keeps chewing up my neat attempts to make it exciting. It wants to be uncool. It wants to be all straight up action, with none of the twists. I can't tell if it's unbearably boring yet. I still have no clue how it ends.

How are everyone's fics/art going?
