Clark looks a little disturbed today, having come straight here from Seattle, and a new Zoner attack. He doesn't sit down in his usual spot, choosing instead to slowly pace around the room. "There's an old saying, 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend'. Do you believe it?"

"Welllllll sometimes. It goes both ways. Some folks believe 'the friend of my enemy is my enemy.' Maybe it'd be more appropriate to say 'the enemy of my enemy is my temporary ally'."

"How temporary, that's the question." He does think that's a practical way of looking at it.

"I think you can depend on it working long enough to get the job done. Or... if movies are anything to go by, right before the job is done. If you have the right kind of relationship, you can be all, 'Hey, dude, don't stab me in the back at the end of this, that's stupid'."

"...funny you should put it quite like that. Though in my case it was more of... a partnership lasting all of thirty seconds before he flew off."

"Okay, I totally need details. What's the story?"

He still can't quite sit down, but at least he stops pacing. "I found another Zoner today, in Seattle. He wasn't a phantom, so the crystal didn't work on him. He overpowered me, but before he could kill me, someone else killed him instead. Burned him in the back somehow. He left before I could get a good look at him. I'm hoping he's on my side, but I have no idea."

"Woah, dude." Zero to distressed in two-point-three seconds. She runs her hand through her hair three times. "That's... that's completely nuts. I'd guess he's on your side?"

"That's the theory. Unless he thought it's better to let me take care of the Zoners first and then come after me, I don't know. I want to trust he's got my best interests at heart, but that could be a disaster if he doesn't."

"Well, well, well, yeah, I'd agree that you have to stay cautious. I can think of motivations for someone to wanna keep you alive temporarily. It's possible."

[kalel_ofkrypton]

"Yeah." Clark's agitated about the whole thing, not just the new face on the block, but also just facing the Zoner in general. And some side issues that he just learned about today, as well. "The Zoner... he killed two dozen people before I found him." It's not a far stretch to realize he's blaming himself.
