The table in front of Lichtenstein is slowly getting covered with chalk dust as he fidgets listlessly with a chalk stick. For a while, he watches the masses go past. Though it soon becomes as monotonous as every day life back home. Best ask a question before he dies of boredom ( Read more... )

"I would want to know why my brother.. did certain things. From him, if possible. But since it is not possible, why ask such a question?"

"Why isn't it possible?" Lichtenstein looks at the stranger strangely. "Does religion not preach about spirits and ghosts and souls in your world?"

She bristles at the mention of 'her world', biting back the first reply that comes to her mind. Her tail, the fur the same color as her hair, wraps tightly around one leg.

Mikoto briefly thinks of the Mist, and other such things. "That doesn't make it possible to converse with someone who is dead. My own experience of such phenomena has shown only what would be categorized as 'poltergeist' activity. The Gaians even used it to power their airships. As for the rest, I find no comfort in superstition."

He barely notices the bristling. Instead distracted by the idea of poltergeist activity powering anything. He thinks for a moment before asking, "You don't believe in mediums and seances, then? Aren't they common where you're from?"

"I've never heard of them, so, no."

"Never?" His surprise is clear as he leans forward and asks. Though hs tone is disbelieving, it's more that he finds the idea of a world lacking mediums or seances of any sort terribly amusing. "Nobody claims to be able to contact the dead? Are people in your world interested about talking to spirits at all?"

"There were only three people on my world who weren't empty vessels, and if Garland or Kuja had any interest in such they never mentioned it."

"Empty vessels? I'm afraid you may need to explain this one to me."

"Soulless, nearly mindless. Empty. They were designed that way, to serve as bodies for the people of our world once it was restored. It no longer matters now."

"How many are on your world altogether?"

"None," Mikoto replies in a tone that's flat but with an undercurrent of anger. "My world no longer exists. I am all that remains of it." She doesn't really count the other Genomes for the same reason she doesn't count Zidane... they may have come from Terra, but they are Gaian now.

"Huh." Lichtenstein stares at her for several moments before snapping out of his thoughts and hastily, unconvincingly adding, "I'm very sorry for your loss." He sounds a lot more interested when he inquires further though. "Where do you live now?"

"On a world I have little further interest in. I am currently considering relocating, or at least traveling for a while."

"Ah, is that why you're here? To find somewhere new?"

"I am considering my options."
