Christmas Convoy

The rigs just went through, with a jingling of bells and the playing of a cheesy country song. The last rig through slows and then pulls to one side, to sit with the light of the sign picking out the thin green and red detailing on its gleaming white paint

"Do you have anything for the two girls I'm caring for? Anya and Athena?" Of course, she's interested in presents too, but she's not nearly a child, and she doesn't want to be selfish.

Today, Victor is wearing two hats. A bowler, with a knit cap underneath it and covering her ears because bowler hats don't exactly keep your head particularly warm (she has learned that).

"I do." The elf chuckles as the presents in the truck start to move around and sort themselves. "And I have yours too, Victor Allen."

"Yeah?" She brightens up, wiggles a little to one side, a little to the other, tugging the hat lower over her ears.

"It's been awhile since you came to the trucks," notes the elf as she picks up a small red velvet bag with Victor's name embroidered on it. "This one's yours."

"Time gets away from me," she says apologetically, accepting the bag with careful hands. "Thank you."

"And here are the ones for the girls." Two slightly larger bags, but obviously light, are lifted down.

"Thank you so much. I'm super excited for them!" She's so relieved at the Nexus. She never has to worry about the Should-I-tell-them-about-Santa Conundrum because Santa is totally real. Not that she ever really stopped believing, as a child.

The elf grins. "Happy Christmas, Victor."

Insided Victor's gift is a red and white stripped knit stocking hat and a package of microchips. Each of the girls' gifts contains a woolly tan teddy bear of just the right shape to be mauled and the right softness to hit people with, and a box of baby cookies.
