Nexus Advent :: DAY ONE

Dec 01, 2009 01:32

In the middle of a large, virtually empty stretch of Nexus space, neither tucked into an unobtrusive corner nor blocking the tubes, snow begins to accumulate on the ground after fluttering freely from what appears to be thin air. The snow piles higher and higher over the course of several hours, a virtual mountain of white fluff, until a mighty ( Read more... )

Oh, sweet, a tree.

Metody is not dressed for outdoors but he wades through the snow anyway, grimacing at the feel of snow on his ankles. Nrrgh. This year, he is prepared; he already made a simple, flat star out of bone. It looks vaugly like a starfish and possibly like laziness. Or simplicity, if you're being kind.

Simplicity, because the tree is very kind and radiates a peaceful gratitude, almost, at the lovely, handmade ornament. If placed on the tree, snow will melt away from the branch to form a shimmery icicle just begging to be plucked.

Metody hangs it careful, a delicate finger of bone crooking around the branch. He smiles at the icicle. It is probably LOLed. But Metody has developed a fatalistic attitude towards this sort of thing. He plucks it, then steps back before he looses his balance and breaks a branch.

"Golly. Thankyou! It's very pretty!"

Seeing the tree, Ruthy grins before hurrying back the way she came.

When she comes back Ruthy is dressed in her winter coat, boots, hat and mittens. In her hands she carries a folded paper star made from shiny gold paper. Ruthy had made it for her Christmas tree at home, but she can always fold another one. She wades through the snow, reaching out to set the star on one of the branches.

D'aw! The tree practically hums with gratitude and the snow on the branch melts away, dripping into a near identical ice ornament. It almost seems like an offer to Ruth. If taken, she will find that though cold as ice to the touch, the ornament never melts.

Ruth's eyes widen in surprise, and she reaches out and gently takes the ornament off of the tree. She holds it in her mittened hands, turning it over in wonder. She looks up at the tree, smiles and mouths 'Thank you'.

Then she runs off for home, to put her new ornament on her tree.

The scent of gingerbread and snowy pine makes Lara smile drily. So even this place has Christmas. She's dressed for the season in a silk evening gown, the kind people wore to fundraisers and holiday galas, but the falling snow doesn't seem to bother her as she approaches the tree.

With one perfectly manicured finger, she flicks a branch, knocking some snow off.

The snow is weighing down its branches and holding back the true potential of the tree, really. Plus, well, there's absolutely no room for ornaments. The knocked off snow flutters down to the next two branches, melting and reforming into two identical snowflake ornaments. One for the tree, one for Lara, if she'd like it. The one on the left really wants to be taken home. (And it won't even melt!)

The appearance of the two snowflake ornaments makes Lara smile. Maybe it's the scent of gingerbread in the air, or the fact that she's going to be on her way to calling in a little favour shortly. Either way, Lara is in a very good mood. "For me?" she asked the tree. Around here, who knew what did and didn't talk?

The ornament on the left catches the light and she reached for it, plucking the snowflake off the tree. "Thank you."

Eric loves snow. He misses it, living in Louisiana, where even an inch of the white stuff is a rare occurrence. Certainly they never saw a snowfall like this. It makes him feel almost nostalgic for his homeland.

Godric catches sight of Eric standing in the snow, looking almost boyish as he revels in the cold white powder drifting from the sky. He smiles affectionately, watching Eric, who has his back turned and hasn't seen him yet. Slowly, his smile turns mischievous.

Looking more like an imp than a vampire, Godric carefully, quietly, and quickly gathers a snowball in his hands and sends it sailing for Eric's back.

Godric also loves snow, and it's put him in a playful mood.

If Godric wants to throw another, he'll find a few pre-packed snowballs lying helpfully near his feet. (What? He's not the only one in a playful mood!)

Preoccupied with the icy piece of sculpted perfection glistening in the palm of his hand, Eric is unaware of any imminent assault in the rear until the snowball hits him squarely between the shoulder blades. Startled into defensiveness, his fangs are showing as his head snaps around, lips curled back in a snarl.

He pauses, blinking as he recognizes his attacker. Godric?

In a matter of seconds, Eric's expression goes from lethal to gleeful as he espies his own pile of snowballs and returns fire in kind. Eric doesn't need to have a sword in his hand to relish the prospect of a good battle.

Gasp. B-But snowballs aren't violent! (Unless they have rocks in them, in which case that would more definitely not be kosher.)

Almost in a sort of approval of this fun, Alisa will find a few more perfectly craft snowballs near her feet.
