Eric asks an obvious question. "If it is obvious, why does it require explanation?"

Moriarty gives Eric a rather tired look.

"My problem exactly. It shouldn't, and yet..."

"If someone is simply too dense to grasp something that should be obvious, then maybe they've forfeited the right to any further explanation," he says dismissively.

Moriarty can probably tell that Eric does not suffer fools gladly.

"Unfortunately, I cannot afford to say as much to a member of Her Majesty's police."

"No, I don't suppose you can," Eric admits with a tiny smile. He's had his own experiences with royal minions; although in the vampire world, one didn't become a representative of the Queen (or King) by being obtuse.

"In that case, you may just have to suck it up."

That was totally just a modern expression, not any lame attempt at vampire-related humor.
