On the Nexus Menu Tonight: Rat

Nov 18, 2009 21:58

Rattrap's sitting on a simple kitchen chair, his arms folded over the backrest and chin resting on his arms. For whatever reason, he's got a plastic black and white guitar slung over his shoulder. Why no, he's not sulking, what makes you think that ( Read more... )

"Decide that for yourself," says a blue-haired girl. She steps into view, dressed in a somewhat oddly modified sailor uniform.

"But, I'll sing if you want," she offers. She used to like that a lot.

"It's definitely given me reason ta take a step back an' look at myself. Not sure I'm where I wanna be anymore."

Rattrap gives Sailor Mercury a cursory glance over, his eyes lingering on her legs a bit longer than what could be considerate, but his attention settles on her face. "I'd offa' t'play 'long," he grins, jerking his thumb over his shoulder at the guitar. "But it's jus' a toy. I'd love ta hear y'sing though."

She can relate more than she'd admit. There's a world out there that disturbs even her, and the one who brought it to that point was her alternate there. She brushes that thought aside.

"If that's the case, then change. If it's just him you don't like, don't worry about yourself."

She really doesn't want to go too deep into that subject, so she sings next. It turns out to be an energetic if somewhat cynical song, and she has a strong voice to suit it.

As Mercury sings, Rattrap pulls down his visor and records her and her voice, storing the song away for later. When the song ends, he claps and leans back a little, elbows still resting on the chair.

"Yer a great singer," he says, flashing her a grin. "An' y'sounded really passionate when y'were singin'. D'you write it yerself?"

"If you don't like what you saw and you know you do the same stuff, then it's probably a good idea to change it." Ratchet hoves into sight, then quirks a slight grin and goes over to where that lost MP3 player is tucked and makes it play 'Kryptonite'.

"I don't think I do th' same thing," Rattrap hrmphs, hunching his shoulders up. "I know I don' call my best buddy Lardbutt jus' cuz he's built a lil' heavier 'n me." He tilts his head as he listens to the song, bobbing his head in time to the music. "Dat got personal meanin' t'ya?"

The free spark nods. "I've left my body on the sands of time. And some of those things they're saying to the subject... I could say them about my bondmate."

Then he looks thoughtful. "Lardbutt?"

"Heh, yeah, dat's what I like best 'bout 'uman songs," Rattrap smiles, tilting his head to the side. "S'really more 'bout expression yerself, den anythin' else. Sometimes y'jus' gotta shout yer emotions out."

He grunts. "Rhinox was a big bot, ain't no denyin' it. An' near th' end a' things, he was pretty much confined t'th' base. But it wasn't like he was sittin' round collectin' dust. He had things t'do, an' if it weren't fer 'im, all th' basic housekeepin' stuff prolly would'a neva' gotten done."

"Wait... there's like - copies of people here?" Well, you just got a Nexus newbie, Rattrap, judging from the question and Kaito's baffled expression.

"Sure, I'll sing, got anything in mind?"

"Yep." Though he's still pretty new here himself, Rattrap's been around long enough to know not to be surprised by anything. "Some people got more copies den othas', but dey're all th' same basic person, wit' certain things tweaked. Like mine, he came wit' a girlfriend named Rumor. Me, I dunno any 'bot by dat name, an' I ain't in th' market fer a girlfriend." He shrugs. Wasn't his place to judge other's choices, even if the other is himself.

"Whateva' y'like, man. I dunno much 'bout music, so I jus' pretty much go by th' words, an' what speaks ta me, yanno?"

Kaito cocked his head, and then nodded at Rattrap's explanation. "It must be strange to be looking at your face when it's not a mirror." The young man remarked as he held the mouthpiece of his headset and lowered it into place.

"Well... I know a lot of songs, and it's hard, but people seem to like this one." He started before he places his hands over his heart. He shut his eyes and lifted his head up to sing, at first his tone is almost fearful, uncertain but it grows more optimistic and jubilant as the melody goes on.

"It's even stranga' lookin' at a face I don' wear anymore. Dis was a younga' version a' myself, from th' look a' him, an' t'be honest, I kinna miss my old shell."

Rattrap bobs his head in time to the song, grinning to himself. "Dat's really good, kid! Sounds t'me like y'were made t'sing." He pauses, tapping a finger to his chin. "Almos' reminds me a' synth voice though." The rat's eyes roam over Kaito a moment, trying to size him up.

"He's an alternate. He's not you," Blitzwing Prime says, "I wouldn't take it to spark."

"Alts are alts," says Crash. "I mean, I've got an alt that gets drunk a lot, but that doesn't mean I'm going to. It's easier to think of them as sort of a twin that you didn't know about until you met, than thinking of them as you, because they might be another you but they're not really you."

And, on the other end of the toddler leash Crash is holding, Rattrap might spot a familiar-looking little orange Twi'lek girl.
