"Optimist, definitely. To the point where Victor wonders if I'm going to get myself killed over it."

Ryan sits up, rubbing his head. "Who's that?"

"The team leader at the moment. Good fellow, and puts on a good show of being very gruff...but he worries for the ones he cares about, and that's how he shows it."

Walking by, Lara catches the question and the boy's rather spectacular fall. She smiles and approaches, offering him a hand. She sounds amused, the expression on her face shows that she is giving the question actual thought. "A realist, always."

Ryan hesitates a bit at the outstretched hand, then takes it, his own covered in oversized gloves. "That sounds like th'best option t'me."

"It's hard to be disappointed or surprised when your expectations are real," Lara says when Ryan is back on his feet. It might have been surprising that helping a growing boy back to his feet seemed to take no effort, but it was the Nexus. Supernatural strength seemed the norm here.

She offers him a smile, kind and mild. "Didn't hurt yourself, I hope?"

"I suppose so." He's small for his age, wiry somewhere under the way-too-big sweater and jeans he's wearing. He preoccupies himself with brushing dust off the torn fabric and sighing a bit at his bloodied knees. "Nah, I'm all right.

"I'm an optimist. I am genetically predisposed to it." She watches him skate around. "Nice board."

"Genetically?" he repeats, blinking a few times. "I didn't know that was possible."

Then he brightens, nodding. "It's cool, huh?"

"Very cool. Had it long?" Then she answers the question. "My mother's family is known for being very lucky. Things just kind of... work out for them. I ended up with the trait, too."

"Eh, bout five minutes, give or take." He frowns over this and consequently loses his balance, sprawling on the floor. "That's pretty cool. I mean, it must come in handy."

Realist. I've seen too much to be an optimist but pessimism is just too negative for me.

I think good things can come and accept them when they come, but I don't rely on them. For me, that makes the difference.

The other kid on the skateboard ponders the question. "Realist."

Ryan is totally not jealous of this other kid's balance. "Me too."
