There's a pop that's a cross between a gunshot and a whipcrack that leaves an average man of average height standing and looking more than slightly ill in the Nexus.

"Hello. How'd you find yourself in the job you have now?"

That's rather unusual, unusual enough for Will to look up from his book. "You all right?" he asks. "And I woke up to it, I suppose."

Sebastian looks like he can't decide if he wants to throw-up, have a panic attack, or is about to face down a pride of lions. It's not a flattering look on him.

"Woke up?"

It really isn't. "Maybe you should sit down? And mm. I went to bed, and when I woke up, I was something slightly different. That's all."

Sitting is for chumps, old ladies, and people who aren't him.

"That's all?" Really? That's the sort of thing that happens every day. You have a glass of warm milk, go to bed, and wake up a giant cockroach.

"I quit my old job and it was the easiest thing to jump in to that made enough money," Hasi says, shrugging--despite what she does there's nary a trace of embarrassment, but that's sort of necessary in her line of work. Also, nothing she does is shocking in the Nexus.

"Are you all right, there?"

"A little off-kilter, but nothing serious." He's still working very hard at avoiding the panic attack lurking in the wings. "What do you do?"

"I specialize in paid companionship," she says, self-deprecatingly demure about it. Thus far she does pretty well at it, but it's very new and very weird, thus far, so who knows how long she'll stick with the career.

"What about you?"

Sebastian is either polite or blasé enough to only look momentarily surprised before giving his own answer, "I fix things. I'm an apprentice at a little shop that does locks, clocks, and whatever else needs to be stabbed with a screwdriver."

Kidnapped into it as a kid, actually. I did need to be trained in my telepathy, but paying for it by being abused and having to kill for them for the rest of my life didn't seem fair.

"Er." That's a wonderful answer and it goes along way to reassuring Sebastian that he has not taken the wrong turn and ended up in some sort of hell-spawned pocket dimension.

Are you okay, man?

"I've been better." Sebastian would like to thank the Academy for this Understatement of the Year award.

My parents were murdered and my sister injured badly enough to put her into a coma. When the law failed us, I sought justice.

"Ah." You'll have to excuse Sebastian; he is really not comfortable with discussions of vigilante justice on the first date.

A rather well dressed young man skulks nearby, listening to various answers given. Only after he's sucked down the majority of his cigarette does he come closer to offer his own reply.

"Woke up one mornin' and decided to do what needed to be done," he gives, with a rich southern accent touching every word.

Dear God, does no one around here go to school and then hand out resumés? Sebastian is beginning to suspect that the only sane/normal/whatever person around is the young lady he spoke to.

"Which would be?"

There is very little normal about this young man. His eerily calm manner is on that list.

"Giving people second chances." He flicks out the living ember of his cancer stick and stuffs the useless butt into the pocket of his suit jacket.
