Nexus, have a Brooke Davis.  She takes an appreciative look around the place, studying the designs (and noticing a nice mini-bar in the corner) and finally plopping herself on the couch.  She has no idea how she found herself here, but it's comfortable...in a freaky bizarro universe kind of way.  But don't worry, she knows what you're supposed to ( Read more... )

Ed frowns slightly. "What was it exactly that did all that to you? Someone or a group in particular, or just being the city itself?"

A sigh. It's not something she eagerly talks about. Hell, she didn't even really talk about it right after it happened. But she is clearly hear to get advice, so she might as well be open.

"I was...attacked, in my store. Not sexually," she adds without thinking. "Just robbed and beaten to a gross pulp. I mean, I was kind of well-known. They...I'm assuming he's still out there."

City kind of lost it's charm after that.

"Might be better to at least stay away for a while from there, at least. Make yourself stronger, then bet the hell out of the idiots that hurt you." He pauses fro a moment, then shrugs. "Or at least get yourself to the point that another confrontation with them won't end the same way, emotionally or physically."

"Okay, I'm not a superhero. I design clothes. How much stronger can I get? That dude was pretty freakin' strong."

She pauses, huffs, then continues, but in a very quiet voice. "I bought a gun. After...after it happened. I was on a revenge trip. I never had to use it, though. I didn't really like it." She really, really hopes he doesn't tell her to go back to that. Even if keeping one might be useful, she didn't want it to come to that. She isn't a gun girl. She doesn't want to be a gun girl.

Ed snorts and smirks a bit. "You don't have to be a superhero to be able to defend yourself. Even if you might not be able to match them in strength, you can learn to use their power against them. My fiancee has been learning to defend herself like that."

Brooke considers this. "What, like self-defense classes?"

He nods. "She's being trained by some friends, but if you don't know anyone personally that can help classes are your best bet. Even just knowing the basics can help a lot if you get into a position where you have to defend yourself."

This? Has potential. She'd kind of skipped that whole thing and gone for the much surer "keep a gun" approach, but since that really didn't work out...

"That seems like a kinda good idea. Maybe that'll make me less nervous?"

Well, a weapon isn't going to be any good if you don't know how to use it. "I'm willing to bet it will. I never personally had any issues with being unsure of myself, but having the ability to take care of yourself does a lot for your peace of mind."

Oh, she learned how to use it. It was one of the first things she decided to do: call up an old friend and have her teach her. She'd felt that peace of mind, that sure feeling that you were in control.

She just nods. "That makes sense. I think I might take that up. I can make time."
