For people who have been in the Nexus for a while, this sight might not seem quite so strange. Three of the Eighth regeneration of the Doctor are all sitting on the floor in a circle -- or, perhaps triangle would be more accurate -- looking very distraught. Well, at least two of them look distraught, the third keeps glancing off at various Moving Things he catches out of the corner of his eye, grinning like an idiot the entire time.
The thing that makes this scenario so odd is that these are not three alternates of the same person. They are, in fact, the same Doctor, just sort of... split up, though most may not realize it.
"--cannot believe this has happened again." one of them mutters, quite angrily.
"Oh, it'll be fine. We know how to join back up again, and this time we already know where the TARDIS is, it is just a matter of getting back to her." another says.
The third, now distracted by something large and fluffy a ways off, attempts to stand (presumably to run over to said large and fluffy thing) but the first one grabs his coat and pulls him back down. "Sit down and help us figure this out."
"But I wanted to--"
"Sit down."
"But I just--"
"I'm afraid he's right," the second says. "We don't know why this has happened again, and it might be useful to learn why before we go running off." As the third resigns himself to sitting and pouting slightly, the second turns to address the Nexus as a whole. "I don't suppose anybody else here has had any trouble with finding themselves split apart lately, have you?"
"Of course they haven't, you idiot, do you see any other triples wandering around here?"
"AND IF YOU JUST WANNA TALK I'VE GOT A QUESTION. Ever have something happen that you thought would ne-e-ever happen again but then it did?"
