Ianto has been wandering the Nexus for a while now, mostly observing the going-ons. Finally, it seems he's actually ready to ask a question.

"What do you do when you can't remember something important?" Ianto asks, glancing around. "And is there any point in trying to get back home, when you've really got nothing to go back for?"

"I've been trying to figure that out," Jackson answers, because there's something he thinks he's forgetting, but he can't figure out what it is. "Keep going over it in your head until you figure it out? I don't know. That's not really working for me, just gives me this awful headache."

The secondary part of the question gets a confused headtilt from the teen. "I ... isn't there always something to go back for?" He thinks it's sad, even if he feels like they're in the same boat. Metaphorically speaking.

"I've tried and I just can't place it, and I should be able to it. I can remember meeting everyone else, why can't I remember meeting him?" Ianto says, biting his lip.

"The only reason to go back, is here, with me." Ianto says, quickly.

Jackson is confused, obviously. "I don't understand. Who don't you remember? What's the only reason?"

"I can't remember meeting someone. A teammate and I can remember meeting all my other teammates for the first time." Ianto explains. "And my lover is here with me." Yes, the teammate and the lover are the same person, but Ianto doesn't want to explain that.

That seems a lot bigger than what Jackson can't remember, so he thoroughly fails to mention his own deficit in that area. "What about your family?" he wonders pointedly. "Lovers come and go. Your family is for life."

"I don't see them that much anymore as it is," Ianto admits. "I'd miss them, but they have lives of their own."

Jackson frowns. "Just because they have lives of their own doesn't mean that they aren't important enough to be a part of yours."

"And what's the point? Try and get back, barely see them, and get my ex's new relationship shoved in my face?"

"You're just upset," Jackson asserts, crossing his arms and looking sympathetic. "Your relationship ended and your former partner moved on, but haven't you? Unless you're seeing someone else just because your ex is. Either way, it gets better. Why give them the satisfaction of forcing you out of your whole universe?"

"He didn't force me out, I just ended up here accidently," Ianto says, "And personally, I'm sick of his shit."

"I meant ... metaphorically. You're here, sure, but you're not going back because of him. Doesn't that give him more power over you than an ex deserves?" At least, Jackson thinks so. He's not totally ignorant of relationships, despite really only having one throughout his childhood. Adam. His best friend, lover.

"Maybe," Ianto shrugs, "And maybe I just don't care. Jack is my past and Adam is my future. He's the one that was there for me."

That's a weird coincidence. His name is Jackson - sometimes people call him Jack - and his best friend is Adam. Jackson might be too innocent for his own good. He smiles a little. "I have a friend named Adam who takes care of me, too. Maybe it's something about that name?"

"Maybe," Ianto says, smiling a bit at the thought of Adam. "I can't imagine not having him in my life not anymore."

This might be better conversation for the guy, Jackson decides. He gives a playful grin (that looks stupidly similar to a Jack Harkness grin, not that he's aware). "Do you love him?" Love is so sweet!

Ianto doesn't notice, thinking of Adam.

"I'm starting to, the more time I spend with him." Ianto nods, slowly.
