He enters the Nexus in a sort of shambling run, almost shuffling, rather than actually running. He is not overly tall, nor incredibly short, but is of rather average height, and average build as well. That's pretty much the only thing average about him, however. His hair is a wild mess of tangled black locks; his face is pale and criss-crossed ( Read more... )

A teenage girl with close-cropped blond hair and immense dark eyes approaches, looking skeptical. She is not dressed in anything resembling bondage gear, just a white striped shirt and matching stockings under a black jumper.

"Wow. That's a new one. Hi." She waves tentatively, keeping out of scissoring range.

Excited, Edward lifts a 'hand' to wave in return, and then jumps, as though startled, when the blades flash in front of his face. After that, he lowers both hands to his sides and looks at Courtney, blinking.

Okay, definitely no hostility there. She comes a little closer, stifling a grin. "Okay. Welcome to the Nexus, then. I'm Courtney."

Edward's about as hostile as a pile of soggy paper towels, for the most part.

He blinks again, chews on his bottom lip for a moment, and then asks, "Nexus?"

"It's the place you're in. It's sort of a crossroads where a whole bunch of worlds meet. Does that make any sense?"

If it doesn't, she can try to come up with another analogy, but the simplest explanation is usually the best to start with.

Edward nods, although he really doesn't understand. But he knows about how there's more than one world. There's the world where he used to live with the inventor, and the world where he lived with the Boggs. They meet at the end of a drive, though, and not a crossroads.

She smiles a little. "Okay...you don't talk much, huh? Did you come here on purpose? It's a good place to meet people. Uh...I mean, they're not always nice people, but if you're not picky..."

Lucky for Courtney, she's treated before too long to a rare show of verbosity from Edward.

"Not on purpose," he confirms, as the scissors twitch restlessly at his sides. "Although I would like to meet people, please."

Aw, he reminds her a little of her friend Skarrow, except Skarrow really doesn't talk at all. Not aloud, anyway.

"Well, I'm a person. Nice to meet you." She'd shake hands, but it doesn't really look possible. "Where'd you come from, anyway?"

He answers her question with a statement that might be rather enigmatic to someone who has no idea what he's talking about. "Peg's house."

As if everyone in the multiverse knows Peg, the way everyone in the neighborhood he's from does.
