Victor would be able to write faster if she didn't have a robotic toddler leaning against her right arm, but she didn't mind. She was looking to be about thirty years old and deliberately androgynous.

The child's face was dominated by his eyes, large and blue and lit-up, and he clicked to himself as he colored carefully inside the lines, though he didn't seem to have a mouth to click with. No nose either, for that matter.

The robot child, Jude, was coloring a picture of a grasshopper with crayons, and Victor leaned over to remind him that he didn't have to color it green if he didn't want to.

Victor put her arm around her kid, gave up on writing for the time being. "What are you working on? What's something that you've learned recently?"
