Someone's in the Nexus today. Someone who, from the looks of it, has no clue how to apply makeup. Otherwise those bags under his eyes would be covered up. But oh well, at least Reilly Tyne's a snazzy dresser ( Read more... )

"Everyone has to believe in something."

In answer to the second question, that-kid-wearing-a-cold-mask, aka Enzan, just holds out a bottle of pills. "Sleeping pills. It's the only thing that worked for me.

Don't... ask him why he carries those around.

"Thank you, but no thanks. I haven't had... much success with those." Not to mention Reilly would feel kind of weird taking pills from a kid.

"I don't disagree with your point but I'm afraid it doesn't quite answer my question, unless you do believe just to believe. But why do you believe in whatever it is instead of believing in something else? Sorry if that sounds rude, I'm just trying to clarify."

He shrugged and tucked the pills away.

"It's kind of a hard question to answer. If you asked me why I believed a certain thing was wrong, I could tell you. And it depends on what kind of belief you're talking about. In a religion, in a system, in a moral code...?"

"You're right, I should have been more specific in my question. I'll guess I'll ask about moral codes. That often goes along with religion, I've found - not to say religious people are automatically moral or vice-versa. So, why do you believe in your moral code?"

Enzan thought about that for a moment. "I'm not religious, so my basic moral code would have to come from the idea that people should be able to live their lives and be happy. I may not agree with some of the things that make them happy, but as long as they're not hurting someone else with it, they should be free to do so. As long as personal freedom doesn't come at the cost of someone else, then people have a right to it."

Reilly is quiet for a moment, but finally he says, "That's a very good basis for a belief. Flexible enough that you're not trapped in some code, but specific enough to potentially avoid abuses in its name."

As if to emphasize the point, he's smiling as he says this. Congratulations, Enzan, you've just been Reilly Approved.

"Thanks."

Is that like being Bat approved, only with less B|-ing? Or like being Tim approved, which may or may not be a good thing depending on Tim's mood?

"What about yours?"
