Once again the Nexus catches Telrim off-guard, but she's not nearly as disconcerted this time. Which is good, since the human-Controller is carrying a paper cup of steaming coffee, and spilling it would hurt.

Or maybe not, here. Still, she's glad she didn't jump.

Telrim gives the Nexus a sharp (though tired) smile and relaxes. "All right, then. What ( Read more... )

"Friends. Sunrises. Other things that look nice. Have I understood the question?"

Telrim smiles and gives him a nod. "Certainly. I'm not being choosy here. And hello, again."

"I admire courage, particularly where it is most futile."

Telrim tilts her head. He's speaking, not thought-speaking, but still... she proceeds with caution.

"Why?" She could try and suggest reasons, but she'd rather hear his.

Probably he's speaking Lapine, but the Nexus, being Nexus-y, translates into a common language.

"It is the nature of the living to fight to remain living. That is why courage exists. For a rabbit-or another living creature, I imagine, though I am less familiar with such-to stand firm in the face of certain suffering and death is rare, counterintuitive and therefore far more beautiful."

...Yes, it sounds like he really is a rabbit - or at least, not an alien in disguise. Telrim relaxes.

It helps that what he's saying is interesting her greatly. "Other species tend to celebrate it, too - well, mostly." She nods, trying to pin down the various implications with a Monday-morning brain. "Does the fact that it's harder make it more meaningful?"

"A city at sundown. Everyone's on their way home from work or shopping... and plenty more people are going out for a good night at a club with friends. It's fascinating, all the different people you can watch."

Telrim listens and takes a sip of coffee. No, still too hot, keep talking instead. "Do you do a lot of people-watching?" Her smile says it's a good pastime.

"I used to," she replies. "Back in college. Before I dropped out, anyways. There was nothing better to do during great weather than sit and read and spy on people as they walked past." She smiles slightly at the recollection. "Now I guess I'm too busy to stop and notice anything."

"I can sympathise." She looks back at her cup. "Is what you're doing now worth it?"

An envious glance at the woman's coffee.

"Nonlethal 'splosions."

Telrim grins. "They get pretty spectacular. What's the biggest one you've seen?"

She could name a few... but they weren't exactly nonlethal. Hrm.

"Oh, just moviestuffs, is all." She sighed a (jokingly) over-dramatic sigh. Then grinned. "But they get pretty freakin' huge."

Telrim chuckles and nods. "In real life you're usually too busy running like hell to appreciate them, anyway. But fireworks are a good substitute, too."
