In a usually peaceful corner of the Nexus, something strange is happening.

White fog appears in the area, spreading around and concealing vision. It isn't very thick yet, but moving through it is eerie. Anyone who would enter that area, would almost feel like something quiet, barely detectable, is probing their minds. Some of them might even ( Read more... )

Well, here comes everyone's favorite zombie-fighting police officer. He's on his way through the Nexus when he notices the fog.

At first, he starts to GTFO, thinking it's another Scarecrow gas attack, but when he notices nobody is running away or freaking out, he decides to investigate. Hey, somebody's gotta do it.

And so Chris clicks on his flashlight, beginning to move through the fog and determine its source...

It gets dark pretty fast around here, so bringing a flashlight was a good move, on Chris' part. If only the fog wasn't there to catch the light and disperse it so close to the source...

The smell that hangs in the air as Chris progresses further in is earthy and damp, like a lawn after sunset, and tufts of long wet grass whip against his pantlegs as he moves. Nearby, a small ornamental maple has emerged from the ground, its shape an eerily human-like one, and some untrimmed shrubbery form a sort of wall that ambles off into the darkness. Almost like a maze.

There's a bit of movement in the darkness nearby, further off in the darkness where the hedge leads. Is it a person? It looks like one, from back here.

Well, not that Chris is a genius or anything. Just fortunate that he's a cop and always carries one. :3

He continues on through the fog, feeling the wet grass brush against him. What the hell? Grass in the Nexus now? He couldn't recall a field being here...

Chris starts to follow the shrubbery, holding the light out in front of him, and then he sees...well, something. He waves the flashlight back and forth.

"Hello?"

A crouching, shaking figure appears for a brief moment, illuminated by Chris' flashlight- then, suddenly as it appeared, there's nothing there.

Was it trick of the light? No... there's something there. A polo shirt, white with faint blue stripes, hanging in the bushes.

Okay, what the fuck?

Chris steps forward, his light shining on the shirt, and off in the distance he thinks he hears something. Dogs growling. Very familiar dogs...

The hair stands on the back of his neck, and Chris draws his pistol, holding it in his other hand.

He moves up to investigate the shirt.

Lost courage already, Chris? That's just the wind howling through the trees. Honest.

It appears to be an ordinary shirt, albeit a rather large and filthy one. A nasty brown stain covers the lower front, though, complete with some rather telling holes... whoever used to own this shirt took a few slugs in the belly, by the looks of it.

Hell naw, son. :3

Chris uses the barrel of his gun to lift the shirt from the hedge, holding it up and looking at it with a mixture of disgust and curiosity. Jesus.

"Hello?"

He calls out again, into the fog, and shines his light around.

Nothing. No dead bodies, no cries for help... just dark, foggy stillness.

The blood stains on the shirt are pretty old, though it's still disturbing to find something like this just hanging around in the Nexus.

Yeah, it is.

Well, since it is evidence, Chris holsters his gun and squats down, pulling on a pair of rubber surgical gloves while he does. He's going to put the shirt into a plastic evidence bag, flashlight held in his teeth.

And try to ignore the sounds of those dogs...and was that...nawwwww. That couldn't possibly be the sound of retreating helicopter blades. Could it? D:

Of course not. Don't be silly.

Despite his years of experience as a cop, rescue squad commando and zombie hunter, carrying this gruesome token is sure to give him the creeps, long after he's found his way back to the safety of civilization and human company. Did someone leave it there for him to find, evidence of a forgotten crime from years past? Who had the shirt belonged to... for that matter, whose blood now stained it?

And did he really want to know the answers to those questions? Of course, it was his job to find out, but that didn't mean he had to like it.

And who was that person he thought he has seen earlier?

Chris puts the bag into a cargo pocket of his pants for safe keeping, and decides to push further into the hedges and see what he can find.

Which could be the biggest (and last) mistake of his life.

Indeed, it might well be....

((That said, you're welcome aboard the S.S. Silent Hill, but it won't be leaving for a little while yet! You can refer to this post for what our GM has up already, and decide where you'd like to go from there. Chris can opt to head back to civilization to share what he's found, which would give him time to learn a little about what he's found, as his discovery is evidence of a murder committed by someone who's been on D_M before, or head into the fog, in which case you'll have to wait a while before his adventure can really begin.))

((Oh, Chris is gonna be doing a little investigation, indeed. If at all possible, I'd like to put him through the whole shebang, going to the town and all.))

((Very well! If you'd like any additional information, refer to the second DM_OOC post that our loving GM has put up.))
