And back again!

He's back. This time, he doesn't creep in, but rather, makes his way in through the portal, stands at the edge of the nexus for a moment, and then takes a step ( Read more... )

She'd been looking, and there he was, right back at the jeep. Just like before. And looking more tired, more battleworn and more hungrystressed than he did last time.

Casting a quick eye around and making sure he doesn't see her yet, Leela heads back to where the crowd has thinned out and moved on. She leans against a tree, concentrating, opening the gates in her mind and body. Her skin warms, and begins to turn from a pink to a soft gold, and slowly begins to glow.

Alec's got a trank gun and he's positioning himself where he can get a clear shot, but stay hidden from Derek's view.

For the moment, Derek is unaware of Alec, but he does turn towards that glow.

That annoying glow.

That very tasty glow.

Crouching, the hunter slides off the hood of the jeep and into the shadows, searching for the source of this new temptation.

She closes her eyes for a moment, feeling the earth below her feet, feeling the familiar energy of life course through her.

The glow strengthens, becomes more noticeable. Now it's shimmering in the air around her and Leela opens her eyes and smiles. She's wearing no jewelry this time, just a long, gleaming unbroken line of skin at her throat. She pulls out a small silver dagger, thin bladed, nearly ineffectual against the threat that will soon be heading for her; and begins cleaning her nails with it. Her backup pistol is tucked into the front of her jeans, showing plainly against her white tank top.

But that's ok. After all, can't make a sacrifice be too easy, or he'd know.

The problem with hunters-turning-vampires is that they're familiar with all the usual tricks. The problem with one that knows you is that they have a pretty good idea of how your brain will work.

Derek is still moving, still in the shadows and flowing along the ground like wind-blown fog. When he locates the source, he hesitates.

The glow; tempting. The neck, more so. But he didn't survive fourteen years as a hunter by being stupid.

After several minutes of consideration, he backs further into the shadows, until the nexus, ever helpful and providing, gives him a shadowed wall to hide against and scale. He scurries up it, to the 'roof' above, and carefully makes his way across it in a lizard crawl, keeping an eye on his intended prey below.

He's hungry, so very hungry, but he knows caution is the key.

Alec frowns when Derek vanishes from sight. He shifts the gun slightly and starts peering around wondering where the would be vampire had gone off to.

He opens his mind up to passively probe the area, no need to let anyone know that he was searching for them, but he had sensed Derek's mind before and figured he could find it again.

He's still in the area. Hungry thoughts are prevalent, but so are thoughts of caution. He's apparently thinking pretty hard at the moment, making or at least coming to, some sort of decision.

God, is he ever hungry though.

No sense letting so much energy go to waste, right? Leela rests against the tree, letting it soak in her healing gifts, both it and by extension through its root system, the ground around it. If it strengthens, or even flowers? More power to it.

Stepping away from the tree she takes a hesitant step toward the crowds and where the jeep is resting. No, on second thought, screw that. It was safer away from the confusion, even as it was more open and exposed.

"Derek" She whispers. "Where the fuck are you? I want my goddamn gun back, that was a present." A present from him in fact.

Right, hungry would be monster up top, but he can't see him. Can't aim at what he can't see and he's not trusting his chaotic abilities to see for him.

So, he keeps an eye on Leela, figuring at least he can see her, and Derek'll have to come out into the open to attack her.

Yes, unfortunately for Derek, he will have to let go of his perch. But for now, he likes where he is; hidden and unseen.

"....leeelaaaa."

It's hard to tell where that voice is coming from; it seems to bounce inside her mind as much as it echoes through the area.

Derek is above the tree now, but still in shadows. He stops all movement as he studies her from this position. A lick of his lips as he considers his options and takes in her scent.

Food. He almost has food.

Oh she hears that, and her back starts to prickle, the hair standing straight up. "Derek?" Funny how her body just seems to stiffen right there, not able to move for a moment without conscious effort. "Derek, where are you?" She took a deep breath, let it out slowly and counted to ten. Then she began to smile.

If you can't beat em, screw with them, right? And they didn't call her a monsterbaiter for nothing. She threw her hair back and put her hands on her hips. "Derek, oh big brother? You sneaky Son-of-a-bitch. You didn't play fair, Derek. Not cool bro. I want my fucking gun back."

Oooh creepy voices. Nice.

He waits though, patiently. He's not going to screw this one up, by loosing concentration or getting distracted.

"'Play fair', Leela?" the voice is a little stronger now, and probably a tiny bit more centralized. There's a tone of cruel amusement.

"I needed the gun, and you loaned it. And I even have it to give back. No worries, little sister. I wouldn't keep it from you."

Of all the monsters to play with in the nexus, and she was messing with family.

"I hope to hell you at least cleaned the thing. It didn't have a mark on it when I gave it to you." She looks around the area, not seeing Alec, or Yoko, or Derek. Not seeing anyone.

"Well look, you can drop it off anytime ok? Mail it to me or something. I just stopped by to bitch you out before going over to Deacon's." She gave a low, sultry laugh. "Turns out he's hungry tonight, wants a midnight snack or hell, breakfast in bed, I'm not sure. Can't keep him waiting you know?" She caresses her neck with a forefinger.

"Take care of yourself big brother, I probably won't be around for a few days. But hey, you know how it is."

"Talk to you later, Derek".

He doesn't laugh. He wants to, but he doesn't. Very tricky and clever. He aims the gun near Leela figuring Derek would be there very shortly.

The laughter is soft.

"Leela, Leela, Leela. Who do you think you're talking to? Go right ahead and offer yourself to him. He's already marked you. For someone so proud of her freedom, you accept so many painful little chains that pinch and pull and call them good. A pity your skin does not match your bindings. You would be so pretty."
