And back again!

He's back. This time, he doesn't creep in, but rather, makes his way in through the portal, stands at the edge of the nexus for a moment, and then takes a step ( Read more... )

Ruthven is still lying limply on a couch, watching the women come and go, talking of Michelangelothe comings and goings of the Nexus.

This is one of the more interesting transformations he's witnessed. He hopes Bliss can be brought back to himself if and when this wretched tempororesonal upheaval has been reversed.

What had he done with his last few minutes of life, the last time? He remembers listening to the wind in the trees, feeling a beloved hand in his own, the dim fading warmth on his face; the sensation of contentment.

"The good kind." He has enough to be droll. "--Things I had enjoyed, and things I was still enjoying. It makes a bit of difference if you know you're dying; you have time to take stock and consider what you've achieved and what you've seen."

Ruthven coughs, and watches Derek, his eyes glittering.

"It was a good death, as they go, yes." Not much emotion there, either. Compared to the six or seven other times, it really was one of his better deaths.

He wonders if there's anything of Derek left in there.

Derek nods, and shifts on his seat. He looks like a bird considering flight. He's definitely starting to look restless.

There is still some of Derek within, though, and because of that, he will settle back into place, even as his vitals drop even lower.

Very, very quietly, Ruthven says, "Is there anything that can help you?"

"Unless you have a cure, no."

And you would not be able to catch me in time, old one adds the presence that's feeding and devouring from within.

"I did, once. I doubt it would...work, again. I am sorry."

He coughs, and lies back against the couch, closing his eyes.

"Don't be," both voice and thought echo the sentiment.
