He's back. This time, he doesn't creep in, but rather, makes his way in through the portal, stands at the edge of the nexus for a moment, and then takes a step

"Then it is good advice."
He is. Barely. His heart still beats--at thirty per minute. His blood still runs, but it is slow, like molasses or an ice flow. And his body is as cool or even cooler than the air around him. He has the smell of vampires on him, and it's not all from the black blood on his clothes.
"Well, if I'm surrounded and outnumbered by enemies, I'll fight them without hesitation until I die. If it's something more peaceful, which is rare in my line of work, I'll spend it with friends and loved ones."
"You look like shit." Of course, Derek's not the only one who has changed. Shard? Currently isn't giving off a scent. Unless it's one faintly of ozone. Or whatever smell photons make when they go from excited states to ground states.
She certainly doesn't smell like blood. "Relax but be wary. And the last few minutes of my life? I fought. I fought damned fucking hard."
"Missing a lot of somethings. Couple million, billion cells." Okay, that's not the most precise thing in the entire world, but who knows how many cells are in the human body?
She nods. "I'm not surprised. Most heroes, I think, would rather go down fighting for what they believe in. Unless they've already achieved it. Then dying after a fantastic round of sex with your twenty-something partner at the age of 110 works, too."
Marc eyes the guy on the jeep carefully. Apparently, things are even weirder here than normal.
"Personally, I'm not one for claiming territory. But if you went to the trouble of making it yours, you ought to be ready to fight for it. Take a break to regroup and evaluate the situation, though." He pauses and thinks for a moment. "Are you working solo? Because that makes things a hell of a lot harder.
A wry, nearly humorless grin. Yes, this question is simpler. "I plan to fight as hard as I can to make sure they -aren't- the last few minutes." He shrugs. "But if I have to go, I'll be trying to take somebody with me."

Derek regards this woman carefully. Familiar, but not. Distant memory.
His own nostrils flare, and he cocks his head and closes his eyes to listen for heart-beat and running blood.

"It's always worked for me."

I'd try to spend it with the people I care about.

"A second for vigilance. Good thing I have no designs for here, isn't it?"
"And if that were not possible, what then?"

I'd do what I can that I like to do, what's available, maybe try to get contact with people I care about.
Reply
"Hmn. So you would be insistent on contacting loved ones, even if that could be damaging for both parties? Interesting."
Reply
"As for the second question, that all depends on how my life plans on ending."

His smile is indulgent.

"Hmn. Common for hero types, I think."

He doesn't sound anywhere near as sympathetic and sincere as Derek would normally sound.
"You've done this?"

Derek nods his head, "Also a likely answer for warrior types."

"And what about you? Going to go down fighting?"
Reply
"Already did. More than once."
