Cosplay Week

May 20, 2011 15:48

Mere, Megan and Laura came North to visit me and work on cosplay stuffs! Lol, however we ended up having a little more fun than we were supposed to..which meant that I didn't get as much finished as I had planned. :P

BUUUUUUT, what I did do was crucial to immediate cosplay plans, so I still feel pretty great about what things I was able to work on! (Ah, with each new day Fanime comes closer. And I have to finish my cosplays!)

Melissa Tiss: I was really bummed at how poorly my foam 'armor' came out; it looked fine until the final painting, when the paint cracked and looked pretty sad.

I don't have pics of the final ones; this image was taken before everything was sanded and painted nicely. I had just spent so much time and effort doing these, and for them to be such a failure was discouraging. So, when Mere said that it'd be great in leather, I put out over $100 for leather and tools.

Fortunately I had already made the patterns (the foam above) and simply traced them onto the hide, cut them out, used a few finishing tools on the edges, wet molded, painted and riveted them. Bam, all that took maybe four days. (I had to wait for drying) The foamies above took weeks of waiting for glues, mod podge and paints to dry...

Awe look, she's happy.

lol, my pajama bottoms are soft, btw.

Image with the hand thing snapped on. It is removable. I also want to embellish the top white part, but am still thinking of what I want to use on it.

Leg things are still in the works (with no pics). I made a few pieces out of leather and will have to velcro them on. Or I can figure out how to snap them on. Nah, velcro. Maybe, After I put the leg things together, all I need to rework is the back of the dress, paint some things on her shoes and wait for my sword in the mail. (I ended up commissioning Sad to make my sword. No time to do it myself!)

I'M SO EXCITED about the cosplay now. It's amazing what little things can add to a costume.

Lina Inverse: I thought I was going to get SO MUCH DONE for Lina, but Tiss was more important because I need her done by Memorial Day weekend. However, I did buy a pair of jeans, took them apart and used it as a pattern to make my rust suede pants. LOL, unfortunately the suede doesn't stretch like jeans (which I was anticipating before hand) and need to lose about 5 pounds in the back-end region before I can look amazing in those. I need to add a waist band, but for the most part, DONE!

Her shirt is pretty much complete, I cast some resin gems for her armor and started her cape. I still have MUCH to do for Lina. TT_TT

Junko/Starr - Time Bokan: Am still working on her altered jumpsuit mock up. This will be a super easy cosplay once I get the pattern right.

Megaera: Had very little love. :( I was so focused on Melissa that I was only able to wash off the latex from that shiny stuff I put on it. We have planned to do another FSS cosplay not in latex. Want...to sew...not glue.

Suzu: I think I'm done with Suzu. I had wanted a sword and her shoulder armor, but after the shoulder armor did not turn out, I think I'm just going to wear her as is for now.

Youko: Not pleased with the top and I don't have a good enough sword. Am still going to wear her for Fanime though.

Shakky: Is getting no love what so ever...but I don't think I'll be able to make the meet anyway. Why is every single gathering I want to attend happening on the same day? Around the same time; or not enough time to change in between? GAAH!

IF I finish Tiss by this weekend AND I get Youko in a place I like, I will spend the rest of the month working on Shakky. It really is a closet cosplay. I bought a shirt to screen print on, I have to paint a thrifted pair of pants (and add a new zipper...grr), I need to take a part a hoodie to use as a pattern, have to make a fake cigarette and I need to find shoes. Hmmm...forgot about the shoes...not a terrible amount. Maybe do-able.
