NYAF 2009/Fashion Show Pictures and Review!

Sep 29, 2009 01:21

The NYAF went very well!! I had a lot of positive feedback on my Precious Miseries series and StiTcheS plushies, which were sold in the Artist Alley. There were also many positive comments on both sweet/deco loli outfits I made and wore the first and second day! Thanks to Mousse and kalisafish especially for helping out with the booth all weekend!! I hope it didn't eat too much of your con time. :(

(Long) Day by day review and pictures below cut (pictures link to my flickr account)!

Mousse and I drove to NYC on Thursday morning, beating all the traffic. The drive went surprisingly well! We arrived safely at the hotel, unpacked all five million luggage. (I had a huge luggage and a box dedicated to all my artist alley merch, a dress luggage for my fashion show pieces and another huge luggage for fashion show shoes, accessories and my things.)

After dropping off the luggage and parking Jeepie, we walked around the Penn Station area anticipating thislonleyflower's and kalisafish's arrivals. We ate at Burgers and Cupcakes and then tried to do a little shopping. I was hoping to purchase a lolita-esque shirt for a new skirt I made to wear at the fashion show. Unfortunately I found nothing suitable. (I didn't get to wear my new Unrefined loli skirt to the fashion show. Ah well.)

Once we met up with everyone, we returned to the hotel and grabbed some more food. I slept like the dead all three nights. :P

NYAF 2009 Day One - First time wearing this skirt at a con. It went well and everyone loved the cupcake on my head. ^^ Picture taken while walking the dealer's room.

First day of the con! I was very excited to wear my green cupcake skirt; I had tried wearing it as a casual loli outfit before, but was super disappointed with the look. I like this new look much better!

The badge process went well, got everyone signed in and then Mousse and I set up the table. We were next to roserevolution, whom had been an AA neighbor last year (and will hopefully be a neighbor to many other cons). The hubbub of the day was MinyMix's greatly anticipated arrival. She makes these adorable cupcake rings, hair pieces and necklaces for all sweet/deco loli needs. I had not seen her work prior to this con, but once she showed up I joined the lolita masses to bombard her table.

I also (finally) learned the secret of attracting people to me. It's kind of an inside joke, but basically I have found that my table assistants sell more than I do. When envi and I did NYAF last year, we experimented and found she sold double what I sold. People tended to stay clear of me when I was manning the table, but flocked when she manned it. I suppose I am just scary. However, a cupcake on my head fixed that problem fast! Yes-sir-ree, you too can have great sales at your AA table, just wear some sort of fake, tasty looking food stuffs on your head. Seriously, how scary can someone really be with fake food on their head?

NYAF 2009 Day Two - Another first con appearance. I think that people enjoyed my cupcake hat much more, but I still received a lot of positive feedback on this jsk. Mousse made her cute loli elephant and music notes outfit. Picture taken while waiting for the sushi delivery man out in the lobby. Mmm, that was pretty good sushi!

The second day came fast and I was up bright and early to don my new strawberry jsk (jumper skirt). I adorned my finger and neck with new purchases from MinyMix. Overall the second day went well, I got to walk around the dealer's room/AA both days and was fed pretty well (thanks to all the at con delivery guys).

Day three, fashion show day. Okay, so I was kind of stressing at how everyone was going to get dressed, make-uped and hair styled in time for the show. I didn't feel confident in all the details and had to wait for the day of the show to really know what was going on and where the models were changing. There were no rehearsals and I hadn't even met one of my models yet. Fortunately everything fell into place.

After I Mousse and I set up the AA table, I did her make up. Right after I rushed to the bathroom to do roserevolution's hair while Mousse steamed the cupcake jsk. After I was finished with rose, C 's hair needed to be put up in buns and teased. Fortunately both rose and C had make up on, so I only had to add to it for the effects I wanted.

When we figured out where we needed to dress models, we found Mousse already there, steaming away (Thanks Mousse!!). I was only really worried about B's two piece shirt and pants combo fitting him. These pieces were made for my tall and thin cousin, and was hoping/praying that B would fit his size. Fortunately B was able to wear them, though the shirt was really really tight.

By the time I started on Rose's, C's and B's make-up, we had 15 minutes till show time! I sped through all of their make-up, but by the time I went to put the finishing touches on B's make up, we had to go. Fortunately there was enough time after we arrived at our check point to put eye liner and mascara on him. He was such a good sport.

NYAF 2009 Fashion Show - This was my first fashion show design and the only non-Unrefined piece.

NYAF 2009 Fashion Show - This was my second fashion show design. Cape/bloomer ensemble worn by roserevolution.

;NYAF 2009 Fashion Show - Third fashion show piece. Rose's husband, B, was an awesome model. I will definitely use the both of them for future shows!

NYAF 2009 Fashion Show - Fourth and final piece of my submissions. Mousse really rocked Royal Anarchy. Heh, you can see my silly face behind her head.

The fashion show went very well and all my models did awesome jobs!

Now to get all my new outfits photoshoots and up on my site!
