j,
how do you name characters in stories so they don't sound like madeup names?
how do you rename characters in stories who are based on people in real life?
how do you rename yourself?
what would my name be if it were not devorah?

when going by 'deborah,' it's sort of two-and-a-half syllables. DEH-bor-ah. the last two syllables are quick. i emphasize all three, because it isn't 'deb-ra,' and i want people to spell it correctly.
but yes, more often, devorah.

there was a long prayer at the easter vigil on saturday in which some of the petitions thanked g-d for important people from the bible. one was "thank you for gideon and deborah..." }:)=

I am confused by the navigation of that site or maybe by the arrangement of books...Is the passage from Judges, from Exodus, or is Judges part of Exodus in this arrangement? Plz advise.

the main reading for the week is the torah portion called 'beschelach' from exodus. this is the haftorah, accompanying portion, and it is from judges.
i see what you were saying now.
(am just having my coffee & am a little slow)
each week Jews read the parshah (torah portion) and haftorah portion. it's quite neat.
