Kati is so right, nobody has posted in a VERY long time. Including me. Now my LJ is doing this crappy thing and I think it has some sort of date monitor on it so it only shows posts from the last however long, so I have two. Two! LOL!
Things have been pretty crazy around here. After my grandfather passed we had a service at the home where he lived, followed by a wake of some sorts at my house. Both were really nice, he had a lot of people show up that worked with him 50 years ago and so on. Then we went to Phoenix, and his service there was nice too. They sent a bus over from the home he lived in down there, and a lot of his old friends came. After the service his ashes were placed outside in the "sundial" which is an area where ashes are put in a vault and the plaques of the people in the vault are displayed on the outside. Kind of weird but kind of cool too. Although I must admit it was torture to watch that part of the servic, because it was 1:00 pm on July 6 in Phoenix Arizona, where it was 113 DEGREES. It was DAMN hot. It was nice to see Jaime and Brock, we hung out with them for a few days and had a good time. We drove to Vegas after that, spent too much time and money there (three days is plenty of time I say, five is way too long!) I do lov that drive though, driving through the desert is one of my favorite things. I just love the desert.
Before I left for Phoenix I did a tour of the propsed Pebble mine over by Iliamna, put on by one of our board members with Northern Dynasty. That was definitely one of the coolest things I've ever done. We flew to Iliamna, got a briefing of the facilities there and the mine in general, then flew in helicopters over to the actual mine. Everything there is done by helicopters, right down to transporting employees out to the mine site, so nothing is disturbed. We got out at the exploration drilling rigs and up on some of the ridges to see where everything is supposed to go. It was fantastic! I really can't believe the controversy over the mine. It is literally in the middle of nowhere with only a few mostly stagnant ponds that will be affected. And I use the word "affected" very loosely. The closest rivers are at least a mile away! Also on hand was a fish expert to talk about the studies he's done of the Bristol Bay rivers and the relation of them to the mine. It was really very cool. Also, I asked the tour if I could bring Dena since it was her birthday, and the tour wasn't full so she got to go and had an awesome time. ALSO cool was that our helicopter pilot was six shades of completely hot with an even hotter accent. MMMMMMMM. I had to thank my board member for that one, she was like, "Dena and Deantha, you two get in THAT helicopter!" I'll post a pic here when I'm done posting.
Went out last night with Jes and Misty to have a couple of drinks. Saw Sid Anderson and Chuck Lamb get into a fight at Pioneer. Those guys are SO classy, I'm so proud to say I know them. Literally, we saw Sid and two minutes later he was fighting. It wasn't even eventful, it was like, "ooooh, shockind. Sid's fighting." He is such a horse's ass. Then Chuck came up to me and made stupid ass comment like, "Hey Miss Texas!" (I had a hat on with a longhorn...) I was telling Kati, it's sad because I can remember a time where that would have made my entire year. Now I'm like, get away from me, I don't want anyone to know that I know you! I also Stephanie Krawczyk and she looks AWESOME. Like model awesome. She's very slender and gorgeous, and doing very well. She brought her boyfriend up here, he seemed like a really cool guy. I always liked Stephanie, I'm happy she's doing so well.
Other than that, not too much going on. Had a pretty uneventful birthday, dinner and a few beers and went home early for a wonderful night's sleep. Still talking to the Colorado boy, not quite sure what will come out of that. I really like him, he's very honest and considerate and straightforward. He sent me flowers when my grandpa died and called me at 12:01 on my birthday so he could be my first happy birthday, which was cool considering he's 2 hours ahead of us. Pretty thoughtful guy. However, the gap in geography is not real promising. He's owned by the government for the forseeable future and I'm certainly not moving to Colorado Springs, so my pessimistic attitude about this one is it will fizzle. I hope it doesn't though.
Looking forward to a relaxing weekend at the lake. Going to do absolutely nothing! Ahhh. Have a great weekend.
