he said that Dean's mindset was basically "F*ck this destiny sh!t! You're my brother and I love you!" He doesn't say this in so many words but in his actions...
Warning: this will make more sense if you start with the first part of the post
Okay, so now starting from the beginning, I got to the hotel at 3 in the afternoon on Friday, but registration wasn't until 7 in the evening so I just relaxed. When the time came, I went downstairs and got all my stuff (all while being blissfully psyched) and then waited for 9 to come around for the concert from Jason Manns.
At 9:15, Jason came onstage and began singing various songs. He sang us some new ones, like one titled "Two Pictures" (I think that was it) and he was just a nice guy. Maybe because we had arranged seating or maybe because we were all subdued from traveling, but we made for a quiet audience, and I think it unnerved him a bit...he called us really "attentive"...
...At one point, he realized that there was a big screen behind him that was filming him, and Jason kept on turning back to the screen and said "I don't think the guy wants to meet me, he keeps on turning away!" It was pretty funny.
The concert lasted about an hour and a half, and before singing his last song "Crazy Love" he told us that after Jensen and Jason sang the song at the Asylum convention last year, he got a lot of requests to record the song with Jensen, so Jason dragged Jensen down to his brother's studio and they recorded the song together. Jensen sings back up and the entire second verse of the song. Jason had just picked up the single Friday morning so we could get it for the convention. The CD was titled "J & J." I was so excited and of course bought it!
After the concert finished, I went up and bought the single and was bummed because I really didn't have the cash to buy both the single and his CD. I went back up to my hotel room, but I felt so bad that I found enough money to get it and went back downstairs to buy Jason's CD. While down there, I heard Jason's wife talking with another woman, and I overheard her say "I haven't seen Jared since he got engaged" so I already knew he was engaged before the official announcement...
After I bought the CD, I got the courage to go up to Jason and shake his hand. I was really nervous so I said in a rush, "It's really nice to meet you and I really liked your playing." He says, "thanks so much" and I say, "I won't hold you up...."(because people were talking forever!) but he just says "oh not at all, thanks" and I say thank you in return and finally leave.
So the next day, Fredric Lehne was the first one up at 12:15. He came onstage and sang a little introduction song about the YED. He spoke about being in the business for 30 years next month and how he loves his job. He said he might go back to theater because it was the medium that gave him the greatest sense of accomplishment.
He was also asked if he believed in the Supernatural, and he said absolutely. He gave a story of one of the most haunted places in New Jersey (where's he from). He said that when he was a teenager, he and a group of friends went to go check out this ghost....he said they wanted to send the ghost off...someone asked him if he was on something when this happened, and he just laugh. He said while there, he swore he encountered the ghost. He said after the experience, his buddy ended up moving to Malaysia and still lives there hunting down local legends of ghosts because as his career.
He was also asked if he had ever been pranked on set, but he said that they didn't really do it because he had been in the business for so long. He said if they did do it, he probably wouldn't notice. For example, if he randomly found a horse in his trailer, he would just look at it and say "there's a horse in my trailer" before continuing with what he was doing...
He was also the one who called us SN fans "Super-freakies" the entire weekend....
He said that he had recently been filming as a "child murderer" for Criminal Minds and that he was filming a scene at a high school when some kid in the science department saw him with a fake gun and yelled in the middle of the scene, "It's that Evil Man from Supernatural!!!" and Fredric just stopped and waved back, saying it really was him...
I can't remember too much about his panel, so that's all I have!
He also said the line "Little boys shouldn't play with Daddy's guns" for the audience...(at least I think that's basically the quote, but I'm not sure since if you read the next paragraph you'll see why I will now question my SN knowledge).
After this, there was the SN Trivia Competition, and all I can say is I hope that NEVER shows up on youtube...yes, your very own DG volunteered for the second round of the game because I saw how easy the first one was...well, the second round was the complete opposite. In the first round, questions like "what name did Sam check in under in Hunted?" or "What was the original last name of the Winchesters?" were asked, so I thought I could do it so I volunteered, and then people decided to pull out the questions involving brands...."What was the brand on Sam's jacket in the first half of Playthings?"..."What brand toothpaste did Sam use in MS?", "what brand was John's car", and I know there was one more brand question...you had to get 5 questions in a row to win, and whenever he had 4, the brand questions were asked.... let's just say I have deemed myself a failure to the SN fandom and will never again participate in a SN trivia game....
...and I have also decided that I'm going back and memorizing every single brand name used in every single episode...*sniff* The guy started giving us "booster points" which was jus another word for pity points, but in the end we finally won and I got to choose 3 free things from creation merchandise as well as a $50 gift certificate, so that definitely sweetened the deal and only made me blush half as much...
...
After the game, Jason Manns came onstage for his panel, though this is when I had my mental breakdown so I missed a lot of his Q&A: All because I couldn't find my FRUDGIN CAMERA!!!!!! I searched everywhere: my bag, the ground, everything I was holding; I even retraced my steps back to the bathroom and Vendors room, but I couldn't find it anywhere! I was ready to
, because all I could think about was that I wouldn't be able to take pics of The Boys and everyone else. 15 minutes later, my heart slowed down when I saw my camera had fallen in between my chair and the other one next to me (because the chairs were linked together) and I wanted to cry tears of joy, but I settled with just kissing my camera a couple of times...
I caught the end of Jason's panel, and he said that he was going to start filming a movie in May called "Rockslide" which is why he was growing a beard and bulking up. Other than that, I have nothing else for you guys...sorry...
...I was a bit preoccupied...
After Jason, the auction was held, and I bummed myself out just watching it all because 1) I'm too young to even participate in an auction and 2) my price range was constantly surpassed after $20...
After the auction, it was time for Chad Lindberg's panel. I was actually pleasantly surprised; it was more enjoyable than I thought it was going to be. He came out on stage and "strutted his stuff" for the cameras. From a distance, we was actually sort of cute (and much better looking without the mullet
) and if you squinted your eyes and looked at him from a distance, he could almost pass for Ryan Gosling...on a rainy day...
He was really funny and definitely wants Ash to come back! He doesn't buy the way Ash was killed off the show, and told us to bring it up with Kripke later
. He said he has imagined his comeback in a time when the boys are in major trouble and Ash will show up out of the blue, knock down the door, and point his weapon of choice (bow and arrow) at the creature troubling the Winchesters before killing it.... yeah, that's definitely how I have always imagined it as well...
...Chad said that Ash's car would be a jeep with out a top so that his mullet could blow in the wind. Chad said the only complaint he really had with his character is the fact that he never left the Roadhouse, and he always wanted at least for one episode to go out on a hunt with The Boys, but it never happened.
He also said that SN fans were some of the most loyal fans he has ever met. One person asked him if he was really naked for the scene where he stands at the door after Sam and Dean came knocking at his door. Chad said he actually couldn't remember, and he may have been naked. He said that he was given this little bikini that was the color of his skin, but that he thinks he just decided to do the scene without it. Chad said J2 had the hardest time keeping a straight face and that it took forever for them to film the scene. He also said that the quirk Ash has about always picking up a beer or drink after one of the Winchesters puts it down is something he added into the character's personality.
After Chad, the one and only Mr. Eric Kripke finally came out to talk. He took questions right away, and though his panel was only supposed to be an hour, Kripke asked creation to let us finish asking our questions, so it actually extended to almost 2 hours! It was pure heaven!
One person asked about Bela, and Kripke said he was glad he was asked so that he could address us on that. He said that he had genuinely loved her character because she was so bad@ss and was honestly shocked when the fans didn't give her a warm reception. Looking back, he said there were two things he regretted about her character: that she made the boys look stupid one too many times and that her story was not well-integrated into the overall mythology arc of the story, which basically allowed her to show up everywhere without really having a reason. He said that she was in one more episode of this season (I believe second to last) and that we would learn more about her back-story that would weave her better into the overall story. He said it wasn't going to be a sob story and that we wouldn't necessarily like her more, but he said the Bela will never be able to really be redeemed. From his own words, he said that she has shot Sam, sent a psychotic Gordon to them, turned them into Henricksen even when she knew Dean had a death sentence and stole the colt. He said none of this could be forgiven with an "I'm sorry." He also said that the one thing he was adamant about with the writers is that Bela not show up the Boys again, but that they ultimately show her up.
Someone asked if we would ever find out if Ben was really Dean's son, and Kripke responded by saying that he could say right now that Ben was not his biological son and the only way he could be was if he was a step [son]. Kripke said he sees Lisa and Ben as Dean's horizon, or his sunset ending...which is always a possibility. He also said that he was set on a 5-year plan...and said that season 6 would be full of a lot of weddings and Dean on a motorcycle jumping over a shark aquarium.
Another girl asked about the way that Kripke portrayed witches in Malleus Maleficarum, and he said that he didn't shine them in the best light but that he wasn't going to recant that because he shows many creatures and things on SN in a bad light, and it was just the way the story was told. He said it wasn't supposed to represent wicca in any way
The same girl who asked J2 about words asked him the same questions. Kripke's favorite word was "renewal"; least favorite was "cancellation," and favorite curse word was f****** sh!t". (After saying this, he basically broke out in cuss words....just like a sailor....*shakes head*...
)
One girl asked how much of a b!tch was the cliffhanger going to be because of him finding out about the early renewal, and Kripke responded by saying that "[the cliffhanger's] gonna be a b!tch." He basically wants us to suffer the entire summer, and he said he was actually currently writing the finale right now! But in all fairness, he said he had the finale planned out even before the strike...which I think is actually eviler, since he didn't know 100% if we were even coming back!!!! He said Lilith was going to be in the finale, and next to her, the YED was going to pale in comparison. He also said that Lilith was a combination of biblical and mythological references, but mainly she would be focused on the seducer of men and the killer of children, though seeing as right now Lilith is in the body of a 10-year-old girl, they are focusing on the killer of children...
...but he did say that she would be bouncing around in many different bodies...
When asked about what was happening with the music, he said it was the one aspect that killed him everytime it was cut out. He said funding was cut down for this season and that when they needed more money, it came out of the music account first...he also said that they would not be getting more funding next year, so they would be facing the same problem. This was also why SN episodes were shorter than other shows: because the suits yell at Kripke to cut down the costs, so he has to usually cut out about 4 pages of every script just so the show can keep running. About the music played, Kripke said, "AC/DC digs Supernatural!" and that when he found this out, he thought "You're bad@ss for thinking we're bad@ss!".
When asked what show he would cross SN with, Kripke said "2 & a Half Men", which was fudging hilarious in itself. Kripke also said that Sam's fight and the secret behind Mary (which was going to be addressed this season before the strike) was being pushed back to season 4 and that right now they're only focusing on Dean's deal. He also said that 4th season we would look further into John and Mary's real relationship...hmmm....
One of the last things Kripke addressed was that fact that he sees Dean as the hero of the story (and apologized to all the Sam lovers) because Dean still fights for humanity even though he doesn't have faith in a higher power and doesn't even believe that they can win the ultimate war. Kripke said Sam was more of the Joseph Campbell, philosophical person but that Dean is the one who fights for freewill... he said that Dean's mindset was basically "F*ck this destiny sh!t! You're my brother and I love you!" He doesn't say this in so many words but in his actions...(thank you, Kripke!)
okay, I'll post my last part of my LA experience (w/o the pics) in a few!
