Treking to work o'er hill and mudholes and roadkill...

I walked to work this morning! Almost one mile. It was cold so I didn't sweat. I also was lucky enough not to get spattered. Or chased by dogs...only because I think they were in shock, apparently nobody walks around here much. There was a vaguely uncomfortable moment when the school bus slowed to a crawl and I could see the lady was trying to decide whether to offer me a lift, though I think it's against their policy/rules, but I smiled happily and waved and she puttered on. I had to hold my breath for a few minutes though because of the exhaust, that bus must have had spicy food for breakfast.

It's not something I can do too often but it was a nice change. The only drawback was that I didn't stop and get my newspaper and can of DP, so after I made it back home I still had to get in the car and go get the paper.

My aunt, actually my mother's aunt, called me tonight, but I saw her name and I didn't answer. She lives in New Jersey and I haven't seen her since I was a kid but she likes calling me a couple of times a year. But she talks FOREVER and I had just started my bath water and I wanted to relax, not rehash the past year for her and hear about how her daughter and son-in-law won't let her do anything. Now I feel guilty for not talking to her cause she's very old and I don't think her health's that great. Only I don't feel guilty enough yet to call back...
