Portugal-Germany

Jun 20, 2008 14:42

So that's that. The Germans proved it again. They are a 'tournament' team as the guys in the studio pointed out. Start slowly and then catch steam as the tournament progresses. *huge sigh*

It was horrible defending by Portugal that let them down. I think they created enough chances to have won the game. If they had defended a little bit better, especially at set-pieces, it could have been so different. Paulo Ferreira is really poor as a defender, and he doesn't offer much going forward either. Bosingwa doesn't seem too hot. Pepe and Carvalho were marvellous, but they needed a bit more support from the full-backs. I loved the surging runs those two made into attack, especially Pepe.

It's rather unfair, because based on quality of football, Portugal should have gone through. They were lovely to watch, with their quick moves and incisive passes. They just lacked the killer strike. But Germany put in a lot of hard work, so I guess in the end they did deserve it. I just hope Croatia knock them out, I don't think they are good enough to win the whole thing.

I thinkl Nani should have started the game. Maybe he doesn't track back as well as Simao, but he's a lot more threatening. He proved it in the 25 mins or so that he played. He had more chances than Simao had the whole game. Of course, he blasted a few of those into the stands, but they were really desperate by that time. Actually, I'm quite interested to see how he develops with us next season. With a bit of discipline, I think he might really become a very good player.

I am ashamed to admit this, but part of me felt just a little bit of vindictive satisfaction that Cristiano lost. I'm sorry for his teammates, Deco, Nuno, Carvalho and the rest don't deserve it. But he's just being a total jerk, if this interview is true. How can anyone be so naive, and so thoughtless! Look at this-

Guillem:    You know that when you return to Manchester people will be upset with you

Ronaldo:    But that will pass, a couple of good goals and people will be happy.

Yeah right. I wouldn't bet on it, honey. Perhaps you may want to remember how the United fans treated Rio after his contract mess. Or how Liverpool fans reacted to the Stevie-Chelsea saga.
And what about this-

Guillem:    The little details were won by Germany. You didn’t seem concentrated enough

Ronaldo:    I didn’t do anything wrong. I did what I had to do but the team made mistakes and that is why we lost.

Sweetie, you were supposed to be marking Klose for the second goal. I don't think you are completely blameless. And he says that he made a decision 2-3 months ago. So what was that "I stay" all about?

I don't want to have a kneejerk reaction(I will have a lot of apologising to do if that interview is false), but it's getting more and more difficult to believe in what he says. Every day, you hear new conflicting reports. One says he's staying, the other says he's definitely leaving. It's come to the point where I almost don't care anymore. For what it's worth, I don't think United will let him go, even if he puts in a transfer request. It's a matter of principle for us, Sir Alex has gone on a warpath with Real Madrid and he'll just look foolish if we end up selling him anyway. So he'll just have to shut up and get on with playing. And he will play, he's far too professional to sulk and be sent to the stands. But next year we will have to let him go, because there's no use keeping a player who's heart is not in it.

You know the ideal solution? Lets send him to Madrid on a loan, maybe for a year or so. He gets to fulfill his dream, experience the life in Spain and all the glamour that comes with it. And maybe realise that it's not quite as rosy as it's made out to be. At the end of the year, we can have him back. So everyone is happy. See, why don't the United people ask me for advice??I've solved all their problems! If only football worked that way.....

Seriously speaking, I wish I didn't care so much. I'm going to try and forget it and concentrate on the rest of the tournament. Now I desperately want Spain to win. It will be a tragedy if we get another anti-footballing team like Greece winning it again. Out of the teams left, I think Spain and Netherlands are the only worthy winners. Russia looked nice the other day, but it was mostly due to that Arshavin guy(who looks about 12 with his rosy cheeks and impish looks!). Netherlands-Russia should be a cracking game, as will Spain-Italy. I don't really care about tonight's game, probably Croatia will be too good for the Turks.

EDIT: Just as I thought, we won't be selling him. So you better get your pretty head around that, love. I suggest you take your holiday, have your operation, recuperate, and come back fresh with all of this nonsense out of you head, at least until next summer. And keeping quiet might be a good idea too.

*blushes* I'm sorry if I sound like a total bitch, he just brings the worst out of me.
