Well done Liverpool!

Liverpool 1- Inter Milan 0

A huge, huge congratulations to everyone at Liverpool! It's an amazing result. I'm extremely delighted for them. They really deserved it.. Actually, I had no doubt that they would make it, especially after the first leg result, but then in football anything can happen. I'm glad this wasn't one of those days.

I missed the game (stupid, stupid alarm clock, I really need a new one!), but from all accounts it was a really good tactically astute performance. So huge credit to Rafa, he once again got it right. Say what you may like, but we have to admit that Rafa does know how to play in Europe. Actually, all the boys deserve credit too, a manager is only as good as his team. And Fernando Torres is absolutely brilliant, I've run out of superlatives to describe him.

Now all I hope is that Liverpool avoid United in the draw that will be made on Friday.

Also, huge huge congratulations to Xabi and Nagore who are the proud parents of a baby boy. I'm absolutely delighted for them! I actually squealed when I heard that she was close to having the baby, I was that excited. I can't wait for pictures, it will be so adorable! Also, I hope both the mother and child are fine and there were no complications.  It must be such a proud moment for them, and I'm sure they have the best wishes of all of his fans.

But what a pity that the press is turning this into another big issue about Xabi being here in the summer or not. I can't believe it's even an issue as to whether he should have played in Milan or not. For God's Sake, it's his first child. Of course he has to be there. There is nothing more important in this world than family, not even football. Big games will come and go but the birth of your child will happen only once. And would he have been able to forgive himself if he weren't there and there was some problem? God, some people are such idiots! And people saying that she should have had an induced birth or a C-section so that it would come early and he wouldn't have to miss a game, please, are all of you doctors or something? How do you know that the baby wasn't early, and that it would have complicated things even further? Besides, why should anyone be forced not to have a natural birth? Really, it defies logic. Of course Rafa didn't help matters with his whole "I can't wait, wait wait for any one player" comment. But I'm glad that he has come out and said that it was a special circumstance, and you have to make decisions in such cases. At least now maybe the press will lay off Xabi and stop all this speculation. Why can't they just be happy for the couple? I doubt it would have become such an issue if it had been Stevie whose wife was about to give birth.

Also something which made me smile,  this comment by someone on football 365:

At the moment however, he offers Liverpool about as much as Xabi Alonso offers them from a hospital ward. Actually, Lucas probably offers less, since Xabi Alonso may well be helping to bring a child into the world that might one day play for Liverpool.

Out on the pitch however he just looks like a boy who lost his mother at the supermarket and desperately wants to find her so he can go home and watch Finding Nemo on DVD.

I know it's absolutely awful of me to find it funny. I'm a terrible person, really, Lucas does not deserve this. Obviously the person who wrote that is not a Liverpool fan and is talking rubbish about Lucas. No way is Lucas as bad as he makes out. Most games I've watched him, he looks like he could become really decent with a bit more experience. But some tiny, vindictive part of me wants to go "Hah! You'll never be as good as Xabi!" And I always though of myself as a fairly objective, decent human being. Oh dear, I really need to get a grip on this! *begs forgiveness from Lucas*
