TRIPLE INJURY BLOW FOR REDS
Rafael Benitez was left to rue a triple injury blow following the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield. The Liverpool manager revealed that
Xabi Alonso has suffered a recurrence of his metatarsal injury and
Fernando Torres and
Javier Mascherano are both nursing knocks.
Benitez said: "Unfortunately Xabi injured his metatarsal but I don't think it's as serious as the problem he had.
"Fernando was training well on Friday but it was clear that he had problems during the game. He couldn't use his pace and we didn't see the real Torres.
"And Mascherano had a kick to his foot. I will need to check with the doctor to see how the players are in the next two days."

I can't believe it! He's broken his metatarsal again? Oh my poor Xabi, what terrible luck! And he was doing so well too! If he had stayed on Liverpool might not have conceded.
But Rafa says its not as bad as before. Maybe he'll be back sooner, perhaps in a few weeks. Oh, please, please don't let it be as bad as before! And Mascherano and Torres injured too. It's really awful for Liverpool.
I thought they played with a lot of passion today. But in the end a draw was a fair result, because Arsenal had so many chances. But it's amazing what a difference it made to have Xabi back in the team. He looked a bit off the pace, but he still managed to get some quick passes. He and Mascherano did a great job, particularly in the first half to keep Arsenal out. Which is why it is so bad that both of them might miss the next few games. Stevie was great in the first half, as was Carra.
I am so terribly disappointed, I was really looking forward to seeing Xabi play. Now it looks like he'll miss another few weeks. Liverpool will miss him terribly too. I hope he gets well soon!
