More productivity and the best thing about working for the government

Oct 13, 2008 22:20

Columbus Day was also very productive! All that heavy cleaning that I didn't do on Saturday because I decided to organize instead, I got done today because today is Columbus Day and I work for the government!

That is one of the very best things about working for the government: Holidays. (The state workers have it better, though. In addition to all the federal holidays, they get crazy Texas holidays like San Jacinto Day and Sam Houston's Birthday.) There are other good things working for the government though, including the insurance and how hard you would have to work to get fired (how hard you would have to work at getting fired, obviously; not how hard you would have to work at your job).

But the very best of best things is that at the end of the day, when you're done with your work, you get to turn off your computer and say, 'Well, it's good enough for gov'ment work.' The only thing that would be funner would be if I got a secret clearance, and when someone asked me what I did at work today, I could say, 'Sorry, that's top secret.' (However, that would be somewhat counterproductive, public affairs-wise, so I don't expect it to happen anytime soon.)

But speaking of work, what I didn't do today that I had planned to do was go in and get some writing done while the office was quiet. I'm never going to catch up on my writing. I got about four stories written last week, but I've got at least another four to go, and that's only before whatever gets piled on this week. So I'm going to go in super early tomorrow.

I also didn't get any of the less official sort of writing done. But I wasn't really expecting to this weekend. This was supposed to be a catching up weekend -- on chores, on work, on laundry. But I feel almost as guilty going so long between chapter updates on An Ancient Pitch. If you're reading that: soon. And also: Thanks!

OK. So now to make me feel a little more productive in that area, I'm going to move a few more chapters of Contact over. Sweet Charity's over, so I don't think anyone's going to come looking for it, but it seems silly to stop halfway through. But gah that thing has a lot of chapters. Apologies again to everyone whose friends page it clogs up. It will come to an end, eventually. Please don't defriend me in the meantime.

things i don't expect you to read, unsupernatural stuff
