Drax's Office Hours, Wednesday, May 16th

May 16, 2007 07:51

The blackout was having very little effect on Drax at the moment. He preferred his office to be dark anyway. It made things seem more imposing. Having that forced at the moment would probably be a good balance to the fruit basket on his desk ( Read more... )

The butter knife impaling the note to the wall had been both odd and impressive, leaving Karal puzzled and a bit concerned as he entered the Dean's office. He had no idea why he'd been summoned, nor what to expect. "Sir? You wished to see me?"

"If you're here, I'm assuming that I did. I don't know students by face yet. Which one are you?" Drax asked.

It was rather dark in here, and Karal blinked a bit. "I am Karal Austreben, sir, from Karse. Was there something you wished from me?"

"I wished to know how you were adjusting to this place," Drax said. "I'm attempting to get an impression of what the students here are like so I can better do my job."

Karal had never seen anyone like the Dean before, but until several months prior he'd also never seen a gryphon, so he just took a deep breath and nodded. "That's very kind of you," he said, trying to order his thoughts. "Thus far I believe I'm adjusting well, though things are very different here. The other students have been helpful at explaining things."

"About invasions, monsters, rabbits, and fruit baskets?" Drax asked.

"Not the fruit baskets, but the rest, yes." Karal really wasn't certain what was required of him so he just listed everything off. "And gremlins, glitter, planets, flying in space, dimensional nexus, light switches, cameras, telephones, email inboxes and spam." He paused. "I am still confused about many of those things, but I'm sure it will become clear in time."

Drax was at least somewhat familiar with all of those things - not in the Fandom context with a few of them, such as glitter, but still - so he didn't press for more information on them. Instead, he picked up a different thread. "Are you from another world or the past?" he asked.

"A different world," he replied. "I'm a Sun-priest of Vkandis Sunlord, from the country of Karse. I don't believe the world has a name. Forgive me, but is there something specific you wish me to expand on?"

"Combat experience," Drax said. "Are you one of the multitudes of students here who knows how to fight?"

"No. I have been taught enough to keep himself alive until help arrives or I can get away, but I know nothing of offensive arts." He weighed it up and then added, "But I have bee assured my skill at research will be of equal assistance in the event we are invaded." Though he had his doubts as to whether that was true.

"You're actually the first non-fighter I've met with this week," Drax shared. "I get the impression that you'll be well protected if need be. "What kind of world do you come from?"

"I, yes. I believe so as well." He ducked his head and clasped his hands together. "I can tell you about my country, but I'm not certain I have the ability to describe the world. Beyond that no one there knows that there are other worlds."

"By 'other world,' are you referring to an alien planet or an alternate dimension?" Drax assked.

Luckily Qui-Gon and Gavin had between them explained this or Karal would be completely baffled. "Alternate dimension. I was brought here by magic."

"More magic. Of course," Drax said. Part of him was beginning to feel that science was getting shortchanged here. "Do you have any specific purpose for coming to school here?"
