Dean had just parked the car in the parking lot of the stinky cheap motel they're staying in for the night. It was a really tiring night for the Winchesters after getting rid of four demons, escaping with a couple of cuts and bruises as tokens of their struggle. Dean was grumbling some incoherent complaints to Sam as they were making their way on the black, cold tarmac parking lot towards their room. Just as Deans hand wrapped around the handle to open the door to their beaten up room for the night, a gust of wind blew around them and Dean groaned just as Sam sighed.
Without turning around he said "Cas for the love of God.. well you Father in this case can we just rest for an hour or two! Go play with your garrison or something.." Dean was about to open the door to their room to just throw his fatigued body on the bed before turning to face Castiel, who had his eyes locked onto Dean's instantly, his blue eyes penetrating and comforting. "Fine.. what do you.." Dean stopped in the middle of his sentence, his eyes snapping open wide in shock while his jaw almost dropped to the ground "Oh no.. this is NOT real, this is not happening" he closed his eyes and shook his head fiercely as if trying to shake himself awake from a dream.
Sam turned to face Castiel, then scanned around the parking lot but couldn't see what Dean was so shocked to see. "What is it Dean? Is something wrong?"
Dean opened up his eyes, sighing in relief "No it's nothing.. I just thought I saw.. nevermind. Anyways Cas some angel healing mojo would be nice right now" he spoke in a somewhat grateful yet tired voice. Might as well get healed and relieved from the fatigue he and his brother are experiencing since his angel was there.
Castiel moved over and brushed his hand over both of the Winchesters arms ever so lightly that they barely felt his touch, he stepped back a few feet and stared at Dean for a moment before saying in a low careful voice "It is real, Dean.. you are not delusional, you just have to open up your mind" and just like that Castiel vanished leaving only a gust of wind as evidence of his visit.
"What was that all about" Sam asked as Dean stared at the spot Castiel was standing in a moment earlier, his eyes wide open. Sam looked over at Dean and knowing his brother so well, he knew that he wouldn't explain a thing, so instead he just sighed, patted Dean on the arm and opened up the door to their motel room "Come on, Dean.. we should rest for a while, we gotta be out by noon or we'll be charged for another night."
Both brothers dragged their feet to their beds, dropped their duffel bags by the foot of the bed and just fell facedown to a peaceful yet not so fulfilling slumber.

Dean woke up due to the sun shining straight in his face. In a gruff and almost pissed voice he shouted "Sam get the friggin blinds, sun's all over my goddamn face" he turned his face to the opposite side but the light was still there so he sat up and opened his eyes "GYAAAH!!" His voice was so loud and full of shock mixed with amazement, it boomed as if it was a party speaker box on full volume.
Sam immediately snapped his eyes open, instinctly snatched the shotgun he hid under his bed and aimed it to where Dean's bed was, but as soon as he saw what Dean was staring at he just gaped. His hair might be a mess over his head, his mind might still be a little bit fuzzy from just waking up but Sam knew that he wasn't imagining what was infront of him, but he couldn't help but think that his mind was playing tricks on him. Sam didn't know if he should lower the shotgun or keep it steady or just shoot at the creature standing there in between his and his brothers bed.
The creature had its back to Sam and was gazing at Dean. "This is not friggin possible.. I mean what the hell is this.. THING doing in our room. If this is some kinda joke Sam.." he strained to look over at his brother and saw that he was exactly as shocked and bewildered as he was.
"Dean.. you need not be afraid for I am your companion henceforth. As I shall be bonded and linked forever to be with you, to aid you in battle and deliver you from evil."
Dean gaped, gawked and stared in wide amazement and bewilderment.. he stayed like that for what was a couple of minutes but seemed like an eternity. Did the creature just talk to him? No.. it wasn't possible because it's mouth or whatever it was didn't even move an inch but yet the sound was so clear in his head that it couldn't have been his imagination. Maybe the creature was psychic like Sam. "Umm.. did you.. uh just.. t-talk to me or somethin'?" Dean stuttered.
He received a nod, Dean felt relieved that he wasn't going crazy then an idea popped into his head and he just closed his eyes and said "Ok Cas.. get your feathery ass over here, we got a.. uh.. situation? ... You got that?"
A flutter of wings was heard and a gust of wind blew some cool breeze into the gloomy warm room. "What is.. Oh.. I see Sofia has revealed herself to you.." Castiel said, a hint of amusement in his voice. He saw Sam gaping at the creature too "and to you too it may seem."
Deans face turned to one of confusion "What? Who the hell is Sofia.. and what does she want.. standing so close.." Dean said as he kept his gaze steady on Sofia while he was slowly getting off the bed heading to the bathroom. The moment his eyes broke contact with the creature because he had to turn his head to get into the bathroom he saw Sofia standing right there, in between him and the bathroom, staring him straight in the eyes, it's breath warm against his face. Dean gasped, his body jerking into battle-stance by pure hunter instinct, then turned his gaze to Castiel who just stood there in the middle of the room, staring at Dean with a hint of a smile on his face.
Sam was surprised at how fast the creature had moved, his eyes didn't even have the time to register that the creature had even moved a muscle. "Hold on..." Sam cleared his throat as his voice came out rough and raspy. He tried again "Hold on Dean.. isn't that a.. Unicorn?"
"What.. it is?" Dean stepped a few steps back, eyes locked onto the creature "Well whaddya know.. it is a damn unicorn" he said, smirking. "But wait.. unicorns don't exist.. right?" He said a few seconds later, doubt clear in his voice.
"They are real Dean" Castiel said, voice strong and asserting. "Unicorns are Holy Companions, and every century a unicorn gets assigned to be the companion and protector of a human. Sofia here has been chosen to accompany you during your journeys, she shall appear once you call for her or when you are in danger of being a target by harm and evil."
Dean stared at Castiel, mouth ajar and brain trying to wrap itself on what it just heard. Dean Winchester was assigned a UNICORN to help him out. A friggin creature from pure little girl imagination that every little girl would kill to have was assigned to accompany HIM.. The ruthless, merciless, demon slaying, vampire killing hunter? Not gonna happen. "You know what? You can shove it up yours Cas.. I ain't takin a little girls.. imaginary horse buddy to help me hunt.. I'm.. WE are doing just fine" he said frustratingly as he waved his hand towards himself and his brother who was still awestuck by the fact there was a unicorn standing in their reeky motel room. "I'm sorry Cas but.. uh.. what's her.. Sofia can go back and play in the grass of the green meadows under the blue skies with the cotton candy clouds and rainbows for all I care.. but I am NOT having a friggin horse with a screw diver on it's head following me around, no sir I will not" Dean was glaring at the angel, his face expressing anger and amusement at the same time somehow.
"Can I have her?" Sam asked enthusiastically, his eyes gleaming at the fact that he might get a unicorn as a companion.
Dean stared at him in utter disbelief, he shaked his head and said "Wow.. can you be even more girly, princess? Whatever.. you want her.. she's all yours." Dean was making his way back to the bed as Sofia was still blocking the way to the bathroom.
"I'm sorry Sam but Sofia is already linked to Dean, their minds are one now and the connection will remain intact unless God wishes it to cease or if Dean dies, but even then you cannot establish a connection unless Sofia is willing to, which she wouldn't and couldn't since you are still considered an abomination with the demon blood inside of you." Castiel stated as a matter of factly, his voice not even showing any signs of sympathy or emotions.
Sam looked hurt a bit, his eyes open wide in shock. He opened his mouth to say something but then just closed it and turned to face Dean who was now sitting on his bed staring at the Unicorn then at Castiel. Sam turned back to Castiel "So Dean get's a Guardian Angel and a Unicorn while I get squat? I'm starting to think he's your and Gods favorite.. I'm right aren't I? Sam's voice was quavering but he held himself together and knocked the hurt look off of his face.
"It's not like that Sam, if.." Castiel started but Sam stood up, marched over to Sofia who turned her gaze towards him and he put his hand over her head. Instantly he snatched his hand back, cursed and stared at his hand. It was red as if it had just been burned. He looked up at Sofia then back to Castiel. "What was THAT?!" Sam choked.
"Unicorns are very Holy Creatures and their grace burns evil, even if just by touch." Castiel explained.
Dean stood up, marched over to where the unicorn is standing and placed his hand over her head. Sofia closed her eyes and pushed into Deans hand. He smiled at the gesture then said "Sam.. pet her"
"What are you crazy?! That thing almost burned my hand to a crisp!!" He exclaimed, moving back a few feet away from the creature.
"Trust me Sam.. come on.. she told me she's not gonna hurt you" Dean replied, voice soft and caring, so unlike him. He was surprised at how such a magnificent and fascinating creature could do that to him. He took it all back in his head, everything he said about Sofia he took back and kept his smile there, warm and wide.
"Pfft.. yeah right.. she told you.. good one Dean, but I ain't fallin' for.." Sam started out but Dean cut him off.
"Do you wanna touch her or not?" He said softly.
Sam hesitated but moved back to stand infront of the unicorn. Dean took his brothers wrist in his hand and placed it on Sofia's head. Sam winced as his hand landed on to the Unicorns head, expecting burning pain to sear into his hand but nothing happened. His lips cracked and a smile drew on Sams face, like a 10 year old who just got ice-cream after hours of begging.
Dean let go of his brothers wrist and watched as his brother petted the Unicorn with a wide smile, perhaps Sofia wasn't so bad after all. She brought happiness to his brother and that was enough for him.
Castiel was watching the whole event taking place, he cocked his head to the right as he took in the sight of the Winchesters petting their new companion. Their expressions looked soft and happy, Sams eyes gleamed and glittered with joy as if it was his life long dream to pet a unicorn, Dean was smiling and his eyes were full of happiness and joy.
Dean turned his head to look at Castiel who had his head cocked slightly in that familiar way when he was thinking about something "Uh.. Cas.. can we keep her?" Dean said, his voice filled with joy and hope.
Sam turned to look at his brother, his smile wide "Really Dean? Can we really keep her?! Please Dean, don't joke around.. I'd owe you big time if you let us keep her.. I'll even wash your car for a month.. TWO" Sam was very excited, his hand still petting Sofia's head.
Dean smiled up at his brother "Yeah we can keep her.. and two months it is" Dean messed up his brothers hair with his left hand and grinned "Jesus Sam.. you're an overgrown adult and yet you look like you're a seven year old with a brand new barbie doll with accessories and all" he laughed at his own comment as Sam just pouted his lips.
Castiel just nodded at Dean and was gone in a heartbeat, leaving a gust of wind behind that ruffled Sams hair and Sofia's mane.
