Kittens

This morning, the kitten we are not keeping went to his new home. Steve was more sad about it than I was. Oddly, my brain kicked into Self-Protection Mode or something and did not allow me to get attached to the kitten we were giving away. Thanks, Brain! Wow. My brain actually did something right for once! Even though Steve was sad, he was not nearly as sad as poor Carla, the kitten we did keep. After Steve left the house with the other kitten, Carla went a little berserk. She cried and cried and started leaping against the door (she's still quarantined in the guest room until next week). I ended up spending some time with her, and she suddenly couldn't stand to be separated from me. Poor little thing. It's her first day all alone in her entire life. I was very close to calling in sick so I could spend the day with her, but I needed to come in in order to set up for a program, so I turned the TV on for her, hoping that would offer her some company. I put it on PBS, hoping that will be a better influence on her than, say, Judge Judy or some such.

I hope the other kitten will do well in his new home. I'd been calling him Ink Spot. Steve called me after handing him over to the new owner and told me that she took one look at him and said, "I'm going to name him Ink!" A good sign?

It is 44 freaking degrees outside right now. The only way that could possibly be more annoying is if today were Memorial Day. If the weather does not step up by the weekend, there is going to some serious explaining to do.
