It was beautifully written, though; the details of the operas and dinners and museums were perfect, and I loved how you covered all the different ways Watson saw it (for himself, for Holmes, and for those around them). And the subtlety you gave their relationship only made it better. Brava!

Thanks. I like that explanation of Holmes' actions; I did wonder about it a little, but I figured it was either something like that, or else that--since he DOES enjoy all most of those things in canon--of course he'd want to include them in his continuing to live life the way he always has...and if it makes Watson happy (well, as happy as possible), so much the better!
(And, I forgot to mention before: I love the title of the piece as well. Wonderfully descriptive of the story, and from one of my favorite poems ever, by my absolute favorite poet ever. Here's an apropos icon for you. :-))
