Work Frustrations and other randomness

Oct 06, 2004 16:10

Did you ever have one of those days that you were quite sure that everything could go right... if you just had a different brain?

All the work I spent yesterday doing had to be thrown down the drain. And I didn't even learn anything new while doing it, so it was entirely worthless and almost anti-productive, since we now believe that we need to throw out a whole database in order to get it to do what was origionally needed (as a side note, no I didn't not create this database, and at least 2 other people before me kept hammering square pegs into round holes to make it work).

On the plus side... this is one of the first times I have ever actually been frustrated in my current job. I think it has more to do with being frustrated about having my hours cut down and currently not being able to do everything I need to at 40hrs/wk anyway. I guess this is the standard in Social Service sector. I still love the job, and the 'normal' stress level is great. I just hope this isn't a fore-shadowing of my next scheduled 'cut-back' in January to 14hrs/week.

Sorry! Rant mode off :)

Good things -

Wedding plans are moving along great (at least from what I can see). tyadda is doing most of the work so far (and a hugh amount of work it is), but I don't want her to think she is 'stuck' doing it all, so I am going to make a more concerted effort to be involved. (We went and looked at a dress store, and ring shopped this weekend).

I am also getting much more comfortable, and even excited at the prospect of getting a house that is 'ours' too. I have looked at various real-estate websites and gotten a vague idea of prices/areas. Heck, even the upcoming Home and Garden expo was sounding interesting. As we are not looking at moving till after the wedding, I am not in a big hurry though.

This also seems to be the year of beta tests for me too. After finishing the WoW stress-beta test, I kind of figured that was my one and only chance to try a game before it was released. Well, as of last week that changed. I got an email from Sony (I completely forgot I had signed up) to beta test EverQuest2. It has been interesting so far, but I think WoW will get my money when it comes back out. (I just need to stop making tyadda an 'EQ2 widow')

Well, for everyone that says I only put a line or 2 a year here, you can all shut up now. I am much more a voyeur than an exhibitionist, so I usually just use this to keep up with other peoples lives. We now return you to your regularly scheduled reading.
