Marathon Endeth

I sent J&A off to the starting line around 6:30am. I had some breakfast and read the paper. I showered and then trotted off to the 1 mile marker. I missed both my runners there, so I went o mile 5.5 I saw the race leaders and finally saw J (striped hat), and got to yell so he could hear me. I got some coffee from the Slowest Starbucks Ever, and headed back out in time to see A, who also saw me. Alas, I only got a picture of the back of her head.

From there, I headed up to Reading Market where I was nearly hit by a car when I had the right of way in a crosswalk. Alas, the market was mostly closed, but I had some coffee and wandered around some of the vendors. I went back to the hotel to pick up my Runner Support Bag (extra warm clothes) and went up to the fire escape on the 25th floor to see the view. From there, I headed to the finish line, where I trotted up the Rocky Stairs at the Museum of Art before staking out a spot approaching the finish line. I got the 40k split time text on J, and about 6 minutes later, he showed up!! I yelled encouragement, which he heard, and we met up outside the chute. While sore, he looked pretty good.

We walked back to the hotel so he could shower, and then we were back at the finish line to collect A. Alas, we didn't see her run by, but heard her name being called out. After some minor meeting up shenanigans, we were all together again and walked back to the hotel so A could shower. After some room access and car access delays, we were on the road and stopped at Geno's for cheesesteaks. They were good, but I have to wonder who thought up this standing-in-the-cold-for-a-sandwich thing.

We skirted the Ravens traffic by heading around the east side of Baltimore and were home by around 5. A left to go home, and we fielded some congratulatory phone calls and had Chinese food for dinner. J found the Rocky Marathon on AMC, and of course, had to watch; I watched the end of the Colts-Chargers game and fell asleep in bed.

This morning, I got up with a stomach ache. I was not happy, but showered and prepped for work. While brusing my teeth, I yakked. Yay. I soon had to run off to the toilet, and then tossed my cookies again. No work for me. After a couple of hours of this, I napped and am feeling mostly better. Alas, this is lousy timing--I have a bunch of work to do, and if I was going to stay home, at least I should do some T-giving prep stuff. Instead, I haven't left bed. (J brought me both my work and personal laptops before he left. :) )

J finished in 3:36:25, which he's pleased with. A finished near 4:40 (don't have it in front of me), which is darn good considering the low temperatures and her illness. J says he doesn't ever want to do it again. :)
