"I'm glad my grasp of Gothic fiction is a source of amusement for you."

So apparently I've been watching a lot of tv lately? Spoilers may be contained within:

White Collar 2x05: Not one, but two Edgar Allan Poe references! I love this show. Still not the strongest plots around, but I'm pretty sure it's understood that no one's really watching for the case of the week. L&O this is not. Nice to see Neal get some emotional continuity re: traumatic events at the end of last season. I try not to expect too much, but some occasional acknowledgment is appreciated. (And some beautifully understated characterisation in the execution, also nice to see. The show's generally good at the subtle character notes; it's when they try to make things unmissable that they run into trouble...)

Have also been catching up on Sanctuary, which is another mixed bag of a show. I've watched up to 2x05, which is an episode that's basically a... zombie apocafic? Done well, all things considered, except for a slightly clunky ending. While the episode before that was Comic Book Guy Gains Actual Superpowers, LOL!, so you can never tell what you're getting from week to week with this show. Given how derivative your average fare is these days, it's refreshing that they're willing to play with their universe. And I like that the mentor-leader character is an older woman who's strong and capable and really good at what she does. Also, Amanda Tapping is just plain awesome.

Annd Robin Hood BBC. Finally caught the second half of season three. Um. An interesting experience? I'm slightly troubled to find myself rather endeared of Guy's Epic Angst (TM) and his and Robin's utterly bizarre buddyfest in the last few episodes, enough so that I was inspired to go back and watch from the beginning. Season one is instantly better, of course, for containing the awesomeness of Marian. And Will and Djac. And no Kate whatsoever. (EPIC SIGH OF RELIEF.) Guy's something of puzzle, largely I think because the writers changed their minds from week to week as to whether he was a slightly unenthusiastic pawn/follower of the Sheriff or whether he was all for the oppressing and sadistic torturing. Makes for some interesting characterisation. At any rate, I'd forgotten how much fun this show is, provided you don't take it seriously. AT ANY COST.

white collar, why am i still awake?, tv, robin hood
