On Jacen--*cough*--Caedus
Are there any fics out there that deal with Jacen's fall in character terms? It's something I've been thinking has decent potential for exploration - potential that has been more or less overlooked in canon, unless something changes drastically in the three or four LotF books I haven't read yet - and yet all I've seen are Jacen-bashing fics or AUs where Jacen's not evil because that was the profic writers and they suck OMG. Are people just sick of Jacen? Am I wrong in thinking that there could be more of interest to his descent than convoluted reasons to kill off Mara and some ancient thread prophecies? LotF started out with some promise in terms of what motivates the kind of transformation Jacen underwent, but dropped it in favour of Jacen being a moron and still somehow steamrollering the whole galaxy. It just feels like there's more in there. He always had character flaws, but it's how they magnified as he lost perspective...
... and I could probably segue here into the GFFA and its treatment of trauma and mental illness, but that's a whole different post. Suffice to say it annoys me that people who have undergone prolonged physical and psychological torture are apparently expected to just get on with it -- not an uncommon trope, but they could have actually done more with the effects of torture in the EU, and didn't.
